Why is there no save/load game option.
This is completely stupid for any kind of game. I exited the game cause I had to leave only to find out nothing had saved. All that time wasted.

That was after finally getting out of the mines at the beginning. Wandered around, exited, came back to once again be in front of the mines.

Yes you have to rent a room at any inn to save its a little inconvenience but in the lore of things the character write their journey in a journal when staying at an inn.

I experienced the same in the beginning. Very annoying. A little hint on sleeping would have been really nice!

did it not save any of your progress? or, did it just set your spawn point to the mines?

i don't recall ever staying at an inn / sleeping to save. i've played for hours and quit in the middle of the field, losing no progress - i figured it was just a persistent autosave.
i do always end up back at my home, where i placed my bed and set my spawn point.

there have been a lot of early tutorial changes after i started the game and one time i had gone back to the starter island for fun - this reset my spawn point and every time i'd log in i was back at the mines. i just had to reset to my home spawn bed to fix it, but never lost any progress on a quit > really quit

The game saves automatically after different events. Your spawn point is set by where you sleep. So if you've never slept at an inn or in a bed on a player housing plot, then it'll spawn you at the last save location. In the tutorial there are a few spots it'll save you at.

That doesn't mean you lost progress. Everything else is saved. There's a tutorial pop up that lets you know that you need to sleep at an inn to change your spawn location.

This has been a recurring issue/misunderstanding for a while. I don't remember exactly how the tutorial handles relaying this information (it's been a while and there's a LOT of other things I've been working on since then), but I could have sworn that we did add a tutorial card and some dialog about this to make sure players understood. We even added temporary save locations at each step in the tutorial so you don't lose much progress (meaning locational progress, not inventory or XP, etc.) if you quit in the middle.

We've considered adding another save point once you leave Castaway Rock (on the beach next to Tammy). Or even spawning players at the nearest acceptable anchor shrine from where they logged out.

The problem with saving the player's location at all times is that we have locations in the game where we don't want the player to return to on a relog, like inside of a boss chamber for example. We also don't save the state of resources in the world, so if you relogged next to a rare resource, you could harvest it over and over and over again, resulting in very cheesable situations.

There are also tricks we use when loading the world to keep things more performant and spawning in outside of an inn can easily break that and result in longer load times among other loading issues. Like loading into an area that gets loaded in via an event, resulting you falling into the void and dying.

My apologizes for misunderstanding I figured whenever I spawned wherever I saved I would spawn there but I always slept at an inn before logging out so I never noticed that you didn't lose progress.
