Hello! I've been playing the game for a bit now and I just wanted to provide some feedback based on some of the systems I've been interacting with.

1. Skill level system
I think having the weapon tied to the skill is an interesting idea but it kind of makes specialising in this game feel punishing. I decided for this particular character that I would make a ranger who uses the bow and arrow exclusively and levelled my bow skill up pretty heftily. It's at level 8 now and my bow is still limited to level 3 skill? I still haven't found or been able to craft/upgrade a bow at this point and whenever I see the skill level pop up it just kind of feels depressing. My main point is it would be nice to have access to craft new bows earlier on or if skill level was independent. A master archer would surely use the same bow much more proficiently than some lowly apprentice.

2. Gathering feels grindy
Starting with the beginning crafting quest, I was asked to craft 2 wooden shields, 2 wooden swords and 2 wooden spears. The total for this was ~46 planks I would need to gather to make all of this. I went away and found around 10 wooden log nodes yielding an average of ~2 wood per node. So that's 20 planks per day, it took me 3 days to get together all the materials just to complete this quest. The reward didn't feel all that worthwhile for my efforts either. There seems to be a lot of empty space where wood nodes can be but they just don't spawn. My main ideas to combat this problem would be to add more wood nodes around the starter town and maybe make 1 log yield more than one plank. Either that or lower the amount of planks it requires to make the basic weapons.

Thanks for listening! This is the first project where I've seen the devs responding actively to people on these discussions and it brings a smile to my face. I can't wait to see what this game grows into.

As for the bow, you should try exploring the rocks near the Azura shoreline or talk to ibis the hunter if you find her. There are other views out there, you just need to find them. In every game weapons have stats /levels, so in that regard this game isn't really different. There's always the incentive to explore and find better weapons.

As for the grindy feeling, I can get into that. The thing is, azura Island is just the starting island, the quests there are here to teach players about the game and to slowly get them used to the flow. Rewards in later zones will be a lot better I believe.

I think that with more systems coming into place the design will all come together better. Ofcourse there will still be changes, how much items you get from each resource node etc, and feedback is always welcome!

Hello!

There are definitely more bows (I only use bow). It sounds like you are using the starting bow, which is a low level. You do use a bow better as you gain levels, but each bow can only do so much damage (up to 110%). Another thing to look at is Augment stones to increase your weapons proficiency.

The quest you are talking about, we've actually changed to be 1 of each (which will change in the next update). We had some feedback on it and agree that it's too much. Something to help with collecting resources is to make sure you use an axe or pickaxe (respectively) to get more resources. You get them with less hits and the possibility to do a crit which gives you more.

Thanks for the replies! I'll look into finding the new bows that I missed once I get back into the game. At the moment I haven't found any augment stones since the tutorial island which I used to upgrade my bow initially. The change to the crafting materials required sounds awesome and I'm looking forward to the next update.

It might be a cool if from crafting those melee weapons (the spear, swords and shields) you got some sort of bow recipe. Also I'm not sure if I'm unlucky but I haven't seen any augment stones since I started the game. Are they from chests or monster drops?

Chests are, I believe, the best drop rates for augments stones. Higher levels are harder to get though. We're looking at different ways to incorporate better weapons/increasing your weapons.
