Can all the puzzles be done in single player? Because I've run across a few that don't seem to be doable unless I can somehow move both characters at the same time.

And I don't have a controller nor does there seem to be an option to use a second set of hotkeys to control the other character.

I managed to get all of the scarves in single-player, but some of them definitely seem to require switching back and forth quickly to simulate two players. Mostly, the ones in the world with the explosion mechanic where you have to get Ember across lakes by bouncing on Rime's head.

Some of the time, that can be mitigated by having Rime stand halfway between where Ember is and where she's headed so that she only has to bounce on him once, but there's this one that requires getting her across a lake that's just evil.

All scarves are accessible in single player. The difficulty for some puzzles gets slightly changed depending on the mode.

A tip is to see how the AI player can help. For instance, in the "juggle across the lake" puzzle in The Scorched Mountains, you can have the AI activated on Rime so he follows beneath you.

I'm finding the Mirror Caverns especially difficult because some of the scarves seem completely inaccessible unless there's some way to either a) swap places with your ball and chain, or b) have one character use the other character's ball and chain as a rope. But AFAICT, neither is possible.

I don't know if this helps as a hint, but most puzzles in the game can actually be solved in a step-by-step way. Some have a timing element although those are few.

I don't mind giving you some more direct hints (in spoiler tags) if you can share the places you find hard to solve. It depends a bit on if you just want a solution or if you rather want to get a nudge towards it.

Okay, I figured out what I was missing in Mirror Caverns. There was a mechanic that I didn't realize was possible to use.
