How do you get the fish to breed?

I just got this game for Christmas and I'm having trouble with the mechanics.

I put each a male and a female fish of the same kind into the tank, pretty much every fish where I liked the colour (I'm ignorant on actual real life aquarium fish), and after a while I had a ton of small fish, different kinds.

I tweaked the Sandbox settings right at the start to disable death and predation, to make it a bit easier for ignorant me. I just have to watch algae and food.

After looking at the example aquarium, I thought maybe they need more greenery than I had, so I spent a while placing more stuff, and afterwards I noticed all the new small fish. :)

The first comment is correct. You just need to add a male and female fish and after a while they will eventually breed. It does vary depending on the species. In general smaller species take less time to become mature enough to breed. Larger fish like the Oscars or Red Terrors need more time to grow into adulthood before they are ready.

I would like to add that how successfully they breed is dependent on how healthy the fish are and if the water temperature and salinity is correct for their species. This will ensure any eggs they produce have a high probability of hatching.
