Confused about Roads...
Do roads only add aesthetics. Do you actually need to thread roads through the entire map?

No, they are just "buildings" that add personal transport and aesthetics and you can put them anywhere though usually they are just a waste of space.

You're generally only going to use them if the map sizing gives you additional space that other more useful structures cannot fit. If nothing else to do with the land, these, colonnade, and bus stops can give little benefits so you won't have to build for them elsewhere. I guess also lightning rods, though I don't even bother with those any more.

heh, i personaly used them, with no problem what so ever.of course it might have made the gaming a bit longer/slower and i didn't cover the whole cliffs, just some main roads going throught the city parts and linking the landing platforms to the bridges.
they are practically useless so to speak, but if you're going to build cities just to build cities, i don't see the interest XD might as well try to make it somewhat aestheticaly pleasing and coherant~~

I tend to agree but it is a pain as you can't draw roads like in most city builders. Still I personally like making a cool looking city over a massive min Max one.

mhmm, well it's a bit of a pain, but not that big either, the main problem is sometime you end with tiny 4*4 squares where you can't put anything XD

My point is that if you are building roads for aesthetics... It is much prettier if you can draw the roads in a traditional way. All the dev needs to do is make a single square road to fix this.

Sure but your cliff is so cramped already I don't see the point using space for roads that have limited utility. Parks also improve ecology and personal transport can be covered with drones and bus stops, so roads end up demanding too much for too little benefit.

im with tragic, it just feels plain wrong to build all these buildings next to eachother without roads. why do these people not need roads?

The "point" is to make it look cool!

Hoverbuses. Build a bus stop and watch them fly. lol.

I wish there been bigger street "building". Maybe something like monorail line you making connecting one square tiles with auto generated stations on every third or so. Double pedestrian street doesn't look too great in vertically high cities and having more variety is always a plus.

You need more space in cliffs for that though. We already squeeze all we can from the cliffs, taking out buildings for roads is going to cut even deeper into building space all for limited returns.

I already trying to connect bridges on separate sides or production and housing areas in my cliffs via pedestrian streets and bus stations. Pleasing to the eye city layout have value to some people by its own. Good aesthetic, social transport and entertainment numbers can be just a cherry on top.

True, not everyone plays for the challenge, some just like to build nice cities. In this case I do see the value of roads then.

building nice cities is a challenge.. it is way harder than just building a function city.
