Some NES shooters had a loop as well
Maybe it's because Ikaruga got overhyped to a point where i expected too much out of it, but aside from the kickass soundtrack, it just felt like another shump, albeit one with a cool mechanic.
It's fun and a great game, just...not really the most fun for me.
ZeroRanger on the other hand i just find fun from start to finish, it's also pretty creative and it allows you to turn into a robot which is freaking awesome!
A very unique idea I saw in this shmup is that:
SPOILERS AHEAD!!! BUY THE GAME RIGHT NOT IF YOU WANT TO SEE!
You have to choose yes or no to sacrifice your own save data to fight the true final boss of the game. This means that all of your continues are gonna be erased completely and become as lives, if you lose it's completely over and you start all over again! Pretty terriying, right?
It's nice, even tho it's complicated with the rotation feature
