Depends whether you like speed killing more or chaining more. for me, I like Zeroranger better.

This kind of question shouldn't be asked... simply because those 2 are different shooters...
zero ranger if you're dumb like me and can't handle the complex chaining

The chain isn't complex, you just have to learn the ennemy patterns
I mean I love the patterns and colour designs on each bullet in Ikaruga, it's a cool mechanic but ZeroRanger definitely has a story that sinks you into it. Plus it has a loop! How awesome is that in a shmup?

The story isn't the main focus in a shooter... I mean I love Radiant Silvergun's story (and Ikaruga has a more minimalist story telling) but this isn't the reason why I would play the game.

Some NES shooters had a loop as well

I like ZeroRanger more honestly.

Maybe it's because Ikaruga got overhyped to a point where i expected too much out of it, but aside from the kickass soundtrack, it just felt like another shump, albeit one with a cool mechanic.

It's fun and a great game, just...not really the most fun for me.

ZeroRanger on the other hand i just find fun from start to finish, it's also pretty creative and it allows you to turn into a robot which is freaking awesome!

Me neither. Gameplay always matters the best in a video game.

I mean, ZeroRanger feels much more rewarding than any other shmup, every shmup has basically like 5 or 6 stages which kinda feel repetitive. ZeroRanger on the other hand has everything planned uniquely on every stage, stage 1-4 feels like an adventure, and the bosses are extremely fun, even the final boss is great.

A very unique idea I saw in this shmup is that:

SPOILERS AHEAD!!! BUY THE GAME RIGHT NOT IF YOU WANT TO SEE!

You have to choose yes or no to sacrifice your own save data to fight the true final boss of the game. This means that all of your continues are gonna be erased completely and become as lives, if you lose it's completely over and you start all over again! Pretty terriying, right?

It's nice, even tho it's complicated with the rotation feature
