Game Won't Start
Hi there! So the issue I'm having is whenever I try to start the game, it will give me the "performing first time setup" window from steam and ask me to allow steam to make changes, I say yes, then it asks me to let the r droid or whatever its called make changes, I say yes and then I get a weird green screen with a loading bar at the bottom, looks almost like an old gameboy game. The loading bar fills up and then it just disappears and takes me back to steam. It does the same thing again whenever I try to boot it up. Seems like a difficult game to get to run. I'm on WIndows 10, using an acer laptop. I feel like my laptop should be able to handle it fine. Any advice would be appreciated!

I too had the same problem, installed on two different machines (Win 10, latest updates) both had the problem you described. Green screen with loading bar, it completes and then the game crashes, never gets to the in-game menu.

Reading past topics this seems to be a common problem with a simple fix. Run the game directly from your steam library first and select "Launch Display Settings". Running the game from a shortcut will bypass this. The display tool will enable you to select the resolution. Once configured the game will work as normal both from steam or a shortcut. Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the reply! There's so many different crash on start issues that it was hard for me to find a solution for this exact problem. Glad this gem is still playable!

What ended up working for me was I had to disable the steam overlay and then it would let me click display settings. Before I disabled steam overlay, it would still take me to the green screen even if I clicked on display settings and not start game. Hope you get it to work, it's a great game.

what ended up working for me was validating game files.
From a game's library page, select Manage > Properties.
Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game files... button.

In the main steam swep1 folder you can open it in steam by viewing installed files in swep1
