I raced with that prize condition for about... the latter (more rewarding) 60% of the tracks, once I found out about it. So I did miss out on some money for sure, but not a horribly large amount, I don't think. My current money situation was likely just due to impulse buys of very nice parts from the shop to deck out Mars and Neva, etc.
I probably will take that advice and start a new file at a later date, and I'll try to be more thoughtful with my purchases then!
Means you buy a high level part thats damaged, do a race with it to repair it (with your pit droids)
and after that race you will own that part fully functional, which indirectly gives you more credits since it's worth more after that
