Controller support

Does the steam version work with an xboner controller immediately and natively or do I have to download 3rd party programs to configure a controller for the game? I'm asking about the steam version, the one you buy on steam. Not the GOG version.

my xbone controller works right out the gate but the in game settings seem kind of janking, not responding to me wanting to change my keys. luckily the default controls are already pretty satisfying. right stick - movement, left stick - lean and boost, trigger and A are thrust. ect..

under XInput-compatible controllers, there is a patch, though i haven't tried it.
