Comparison to Dreamcast? Gog?
With the sale this weekend, I'm thinking of getting it. I only played it on the N64 back in the day. How does this version compare to the Dreamcast version? Is there any difference between the Steam version and the Gog version? Trying to figure the best experience to revisit the game.

Thanks for any advice.

All PC versions run much smoother than their console counterparts and framerate, resolution and controls can be adjusted.
Regarding gog/steam lets just say I see people have less problems with the gog version. However with some troubleshooting both versions run fine in the end usually.

Couple years ago when this game wasnt available anywhere for PC, i looked into differences of console versions and Dreamcast turned out to be the best one. N64 has less content like video sequences, less music, worse graphics.
I played Dreamcast version on emulator and it was bug-free and worked with controllers like a charm. No FPS issues and you can tune different options to increase quality a bit.

Just bought steam version, it worked straight away but i find the absence of screen resolution options disturbing.

In GOG someone in comments said there is a video configurator tool, which i can't find in Steam version.

Most people use Dgvoodoo to run this game on modern resolutions and with additional graphic options provided by DGvoodoo. Gameplay wise no version comes close to the PC version also Consoles are locked at 24 fps and don't allow alternative steering devices like PC. Oh and on top of that you have the option to join Multiplayer sessions via VPNs, the community usually holds these sessions on saturdays

@Calrissian

Console versions use different engine noise loops.
"Nicer" weather effects, snowfall, rain, etc.
AI energy binder glow.

Dreamcast version seems to have proper AI engine glow.

Using HOTAS controls can be fun, and ability to add graphic enhancements on the PC is nice.

@Superrast

Have you tried right clicking on the game in Steam Library list, and choosing "launch configuration tool"?

I forgot to ask, weren't you able to ignite methane lakes ( it's mentioned that they're flammable in the manual) using boost on Malastare on the console version? I couldn't seem to do it with the PC version.

I don't think that's a thing on either platform
