Is this game "dead" in regards to coop?

This game is made for coop, but it seems to be impossible to make it work.

I dont wanna play "remote steam" or whatever, since splitscreen in a online-coop game is more then just normally dumb and annoying.

Is there any way to play this game in coop online anymore, like you would play ANY OTHER ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GAME ONLINE or is that lost in time because of "fill in ♥♥♥♥♥♥ arguments"???
