Controller Support with Kane and Lynch
I've got a Logitec F310 and I want to play with my controller (All Mouse and KEyboard Gamers don't flame just because I want to play a SINGLE PLAYER GAME with a controller, I really don't wan to hear it). I know the game is SUPPOSED to have Xinput compatiability, and I have my F310 set to Xinput mode, but I can't seem to get the game to find my controller :-( I do not have such issues with Bioshock or Bioshock 2, or any other game for that matter (with the exception of Loadout, but I use Mouse and Keyboard with competitive shooters like that one).

For those that were wondering, hopefully this gets stickied as well, there is a fix for the problem I was having, I actually fixed it. You have to go into your registry editor. The Specific Area is :
HKEY_CURRENTUSER/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/MediaProperties/PrivateProperties/Joystick/OEM and change every instance of your controller's name to XBOX 360 For Windows (Controller) after that your controller should work just fine. I had found that there were two instances for my particular controller and was able to fix it within a matter of hours, yeah it took me hours, mainly because I had go through a lot of other forums to find this information, and this fix shouldn't just fix this game, but it should fix any other game that looks for just Xbox 360 controllers. I hope anyone that reads this learns from my mistake, and doesn't give up on this game, because it is a pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥' sweet game.

Thank you so much, I've been uninstalling, installing all kinds of ♥♥♥♥ just to get this working!
What a pain in the ass to do, but happens if your a PC gamer. Thanks, I did read someone else say they did this but didnt explain what they changed and had to change etc. Also have the same controller, it as a 360 mode, it works in the menu and works fine for other games...so no idea why this game is a screw around.

Though, I don't know if this'll work with a PS3 Controller, I haven't tried that with this fix yet, because I haven't played this game in over a year now.

With a use of another program, I'd guess the could get a PS3 controller to run as a 360 controller. Also I written a guide for this, I credited you and wanted to add you so I could credit you on the guide itself, I just did a doing this for dummies and do it basic of the basics.

Hm you may have to use third party software try http://xenia.jp/ I'm not sure if thats the one I used but google Xbox 360 emulator I think there is a few of them. It makes the controller emulate as a 360 gamepad. Only thing I can think of

Not to bump an old thread, but I thought I'd update this for Windows 10 and the Xbox One controller. The fix is kind of the same.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > System > CurrentControlSet > Control > MediaProperties > PrivateProperties > Joystick > OEM , then all of the games are here. Mine was the one that had a generic Bluetooth xinput listed, I changed it to Controller (Xbox One for Windows).

You'll see other game registry keys that have the Xbox One listed. If anything just copy and paste from one of those.

Had to bump this thread since it's genius and still relevant in 2025. I am running the game using Crossover on MacBook Pro M1 and I couldn't find the file mentioned above so I simply renamed my controller in the bluetooth options. I am using an 8bitdo controller so I changed the name from "8bitdo" to "XBOX 360 for Windows (Controller)" and it worked!!!! like a charm. Hopefully this helps others. Cheers!

Thank you @lykenstrife @Bacon @n3rdout for paving the way!!!
