This game is shockingly bad
You hear about things - worst whatever eva - and you take no notice being as there is always someone who will say worst eva.

But this game is quite truly appalling and deserves the notoriety it has.

How on Earth did any company think this was acceptable to release as it is?

And then do a sequel?

And then the surprise there is no 3rd?

The only value it has is on a course for video game designers to show them a working example of everything not to do.

And I suppose playing it to appreciate just how bad it really is.

The question is - would anyone who worked on it have it on their CV?

The pc port is bad indeed but the game itself is nowhere near bad, in fact it's a very good game along with the sequel. No idea what makes you say it's "shockingly bad"

Bad controls, majority of the bullets go where you aren't aiming, enemies that just stand there with no attempt to use cover, bad script, poor voice acting.

It takes effort to actually do all of them.

Those are all problems caused by the bad PC port

The game was developed for console and none of those issues exist in the original release

The ones who should be ashamed of themselves are the ones who ported it to PC and left it this way, not the development studio who polished it for consoles

IO made the original game for console, and it was fine. Square-Enix ported it to PC and failed to correct it's problems

Yes, the PC version sucks, but it's important to realize that two different teams are at work here

It might be wise to play a game a little longer than just .9. Not even an hour doesn't really give credit or discredit to any game played.

I'm prepared to give most games a chance, this one is obviously bad from the beginning, all you need to see is the first cop encounter and then entering the night club.

I couldn't face any more than that.

Ahem, how are the controls bad? And why are your bullets not going where you're aiming? I honestly didn't notice the 'enemies just standing around picking their noses' problem. Voice acting was fine, aside from the Japanese civilians in the nightclub, but that's par for the course when it comes to Western games.

I liked this game a lot. It gives me Michael Mann vibes and there aren't enough games that do that for me. Who knows, maybe that's why I don't see all these 'faults' that you speak of. I think I'll be playing it again for the third time.

Uh, yeah I do. It's the original disc version. Just played some split-screen co-op through my laptop connected to a TV via HDMI only a few hours ago. It was great.

Kind of the point, many of the issues are due to the PC port, not the original

You do not have the PC version to compare the problems introduced by the port

You might want to read my post which you just quoted, and more carefully this time.

I would Twitch the experience to post the video evidence link but I don't have the time or interest to suffer it again.

With 800 games I am not persisting with something so bad.

Huh, I didn't have most of those issues. The accuracy is definitely bad on the weapons - it was an old playstation game, from memory, so the guns were designed for controller level precision, and not mouse precision.

That said, the reason the original game got a sequel is due to the story of the first one (including music & general theme) - it starts off with a simple escape, but after that, it goes hilariously wrong.

The sequel is an abomination, far far worse than the first, I wouldn't advise touching it. (spoiler: when you get out of the first area, the gamn ends, and abruptly)

In all fairness, I played it with a friend, so maybe it went too quickly. It might be good solo.
