You just need to make sure he has enough resistance to not die from the friendly fire. Block/ward don't really help, because that prevents his stance from going off, just like getting missed does. He can have quite a bit of resistance on his own if you put points into it, and you can also bring a skeleton to help him embrace mediocrity.
Skeleton also works with lost soul because he can smite enemies down after you stack her buffs up on them. Only question is, who to fill the 4th slot with.
Fourth slot though... I've found that there aren't a lot of creatures who do well dedicated in 4th slot. Most of them can't use many abilities from there, except maybe the bride. The lost soul can do pretty well from 4th slot though, so maybe put a banshee in 3rd slot for more aoe stress and attack debuff, though i suspect that would be most effective early on, and wouldn't scale well since the attack debuff is static.
The mummy might be a good option too. You can make him eat any debuffs the lost soul puts on your team, and if you put the +block -10% damage debuff on him, it makes his stress beam do a lot more damage, plus from the 3rd slot he can pull people and do decent damage with bandages
Skeleton mostly helps people embrace mediocrity and later smites the stuff that's left, so he doesn't need to be in the front. Plus then he can use his charge attack to stun or push someone back if things go wrong.
Was having pretty good success with a tanky-ish physical DPS in second slot behind the blood phantasm, like head hunter or vamp. HH has one of the coolest move sets in the game IMO, and he benefits a lot from having the blood phantasm heal him. And in the mid game you can use profitable bounty to farm parts, though that takes a bit of patience.
Run 2 Blood Phantoms? You can also throw in a Ghoul who can nibble on either of them to heal itself and trigger your team heal on your turn as well. If you modify the Phantom's stance so it buffs damage as well as heals you soon have some souped up Ghouls. Ghoul - Phantom - Phantom - Ghoul is pretty good agaist all matchups except those with dangerous stances.
No. He has to take damage.
well, or at least take a direct hit. it can still trigger off 0 damage hits. And yeah, had to forego the +damage buff, because it also buffs the damage the lost soul will do to you on her attack. eventually it would outscale the skeletons resistance buff
