Question - How to Stop Ships from launching spotter planes?
Hey does anyone else have a problem with preventing their Ships from launching spotter planes?

I can click the forbid launching combat airplanes but it doesn't seem to be working.

The same button does work for all of the bases, if the button is white that means to launch, dimmed means to prevent launching, correct?

Thanks,

Thanks, "JET"

I sent in a bug report called "Spotter Planes Everywhere"

There are so many being launched that it covers up the Task-Force names on the left of the screen.

My guess is that the "Rapid buying and Selling" of planes is somehow causing this problem.

I was doing the same thing when the screen went black and the game would not allow for Me to save it!

Thanks, Again!

I had to put my carrier in a separate task force next to the other TF because of all the spotter planes. When launching carrier operations there was to many planes since there was like 10 spotters and I think it was messing up the groupings from my carriers planes

I have the same issue, I just started swapping out my PBYs for other aircraft. It doesn’t help battleships and cruisers, but does help limit carrier and land based observer flights

I’m wondering if you swap the mission of the aircraft, for example take the PBY off of “Spotter” and load it with bombs or ASW if that would help? Just a theory.

I like the auto launching feature.

However, may I suggest that when checking spotter plane launches, that the auto launch AI tries to avoid sending them over spotted fleets, a) to avoid AA fire and b) because I already know about that one, go find something else?

OK we have spotted an issue we'll get a fix out

I'm enjoying this game also. It is good that bugs are addressed. It combines a lot of things that were present in games I played back in the 90's. This game in my opinion could become the gold standard, if--------

This is the sort of game that I wished the "Carriers at War" should have been twenty so years ago, which probably wasn't possible with the Systems back then.

I would give it a "Gold Star" with a few additional additions:

Removal of that "Health-Bar" for airplanes, that bothers Me about as much as watching a Movie and everyone has a health bar hovering them describing their mood!....."Just Why"!!!!

Troopships to launch the Amphibious Assaults - It would really be nice to see the troops actually landing on the Islands and pushing forward.

A Button for "Stop Stopping My Game" - it is sort of annoying too constantly be interrupted about something that you don't really have time to deal with!

I was trying to assault Japan, only to be constantly interrupted about two destroyers attacking somewhere that "I Don't Care Button" should have been applied!

Overall - The Game is still very enjoyable!

To the original topic, the easiest way I’ve found to limit the spotter planes from auto launching is to change the mission of most of them while in port. For example, if I have a cruiser with 4x PBYs, I go to the hanger page while in port, and make 3 of the 4 into ASW or regular bombers, and leave one as a spotter. Ony PBYs assigned as spotters will auto launch. I Then repeat this for every cruiser and BB in my fleet. You can still use your bomber assigned PBYs as spotters, you just have to launch them manually. Doing this approach greatly limits the number of auto launching spotters, which I believe is the intent of this thread. It’s helped me a great deal; only auto launching a half dozen spotters at a time is useful vs. auto launching 20+ (overkill)

Technically speaking, I'd argue loading PBYs onto ships is an exploit. Their really not supposed to be able to load onto there (its a twin engine flying boat / medium bomber, not exactly something you can casually tuck away in a corner onboard a crowded cruiser, not to mention the plane is probably bigger than the catapults).

That said, this could work for the royal navy floatplanes since they come with multiple payload types.

You could also mod the kingfisher to have a bomber loadout with otherwise the same stats as its recon load, and it would work the same way.

To clarify, the PBYs are already onboard the ships, you’re just changing their mission. Changing their mission can only be done in port on the hangar page

Like I said, is glitch.

I personally make a point of vendoring the catalinas that come with new ships and putting proper floatplanes on; otherwise, a fleet of cruisers and battleships would be far too powerful (15 cruisers = mount 60 carpet bombers, go?).

Is still questionable either way tho because each catalina ends up being a 10 warbond discount on the ship's construction cost.

Needless to say, I hope they add an extra boolean to their aircraft definitions for "Can equip on warship catapults".
