BATTLE OF MIDWAY
OMG It is 1300 on the 21st of Febuary 1942 and I just spotted two Japanese CV heading for Midway. Luckly I had estimated that they were going to attack so I had the Lexington and the Saratoga ready on patrol. They are just in torpedo bomber range now and I'm scrambling every single plane I have to strike them first. This is going to be awesome!
So sad that there is no option to turn off the UI or a cinematic cam like in Star Wars: Empire at War. Two Squadrons of CVs and its screens sailing side by side and 120 planes in the air are a sight to behold!
This is why I bought this game!

Sounds amazing! (That’s why I bought it, too ;^)

Ok. So of the 39 dive bombers in the first wave (one wing didn't make the launch in time) about 50% died due to the figher screen being incompetent and not protecting them. Just 3 wings made it to the target and 4 single fighters survived long enough to release their bombs. Though it was enough to sink the enemy CV. Mind you, I had all of them target that single Carrier.

The 42 torpedo bombers got very close to their target without much disturbance. Around 80% got within range for a final approach but just one was able to release the torpedo before being shot down too, luckily that was a hit. Not a single torpedo bomber survived the attack on the second CV that was completely on its own.

But all of that was only possible because the Japanese dedicated 90% of their resources to raiding Midway. Just a few sporadic waves of Zeros was all it took to almost completely wipe out all bomber squads.

I find that a bit harsh.

Awesome mane, excited for you! I mentioned removing the hud and a dev said they would take a look so hopefully.

Phew. That was a tough one. The last surviving 4 Dauntless were just able to sink the second carrier. With the Japanese fighters struggling to make it to Wake Island the rest of the fleet was now able to get withing gun range and take advantage of the enemy spreading its formation and focussing on shelling the airfield at Midway.
While the ships receved only minor damage themselves, they wiped out the Japanese invasion, stopping the hostile takeover of Midway dead in its tracks and devastate the enemy's carrier force.
Finally the tables have turned in our favor paving the way to commence our raid against the Gilbert Islands.

I had my own Midway battle. Except I had two groups of battleships, 3 each, attempt to pincer my carrier force. My aircraft destroyed them without issue. A japanese carrier group is playing cat and mouse south of Pearl though.

you got lucky, I had the 2 lexington carriers and most of my surfice fleet near midway when the ♥♥♥♥ turned up, 2 battle cruiser groups with escort and 2 carriers, took out the 2 BC groups ad the 2 carriers. my 2 carriers aircraft were pretty depleted after the massive fight and my surface forces were tattered.....and a second CV group rolls in mid battle with a further 3 carriers with escorts....

trying to get the lexington and saratoga the ♥♥♥♥ outta there...my yorktown group of 4 carriers and 4 battleships are still forming at hawii so things are not looking good.

update, rip lexington

http://prntscr.com/kv9o89 only the Saratoga is alive engaging in a gun battle with the soryo, kaga and shokaku carriers.

Valiantly the Saratoga sunk the Kaga and was destroyed by air forces from the remaining 2 carriers.

Fighters currently don't really respond to your commands, so your fighter will have a hard time trying to escort your bombers.
The Japanese's Midway fleet has a tendency to launch fighters against midway island, it is possible to use this to lure them away.

Still, be prepared for losing many, if not most or all, of your bombers when fighting against enemy carriers.

Yes, I hate that every plane you send to a waypoint will return immediately once it has reached its destination. In aviation terminology there is a thing called LOITERING. It exists for a reason you know. And if you loose track of your target, don't just give up. Fly where you last spotted it! It's so frustrating and takes a lot of micro.
And I haven't even talked about bugs...

In combat mode bombers will stay at your given location, not so sure about fighters though.
But that doesn't work in bridge (campaign map) mode.
