The game tries to guess the right tyre pressures for the track temp, but that went out the window a long time ago, that is your main goal.
As for defaults there are several issues.
Primarily, the latest cars released are the quickest in the main on defaults like aggressive, so the 296 Ferrari, the latest McLaren, the BMW M4 new Lambo and new 911, on THEIR defaults agg settings they are very quick.
The biggest issue you have is that the defaults on those cars are close to being very good, because they incorporate the changes forced by the new tyres physics a few patches ago.
if you want to race ANY of the older cars some of the aggressive defaults are literally seconds a lap off the pace and you will need to make considerable changes to them to be anywhere near fast.
In some of the cars you can still be quick, I am maining the NSX at the moment and can be close in some places, but nowhere near top pace.
If you understand how the physics work and can take that into a setup you can use anything, but not many people really, truly understand all that.
Im driving the 296 Ferrari so i guess i have no excuses, just get more good
although tire psi adjustment is ment to be made you have to correct for track conditions so theres no getting around changing that if you want to have grip. 26.5-27.0 psi is the current good range you do a few laps and after 2-3 laps you go adjust your tires and save the setup with the temp in the title so you know as a future reference.
also most people adjust the brake bias twords the rear more.
these are the 2 setup changes that are basically mandatory you can adjust the tc abs and brake bias in the car through the mfd hud thing.
anyways i think there are youtube videos out there maybe of james baldwin(raced real gt3/esports alien) and jardier(basically alien) both very fast ACC players showing they can be very fast on the defaults just that its much worse to drive and less consistent and just a little slower but it seems mostly that the car doesn't quite do exactly what they would like it too on the defaults.
i think the difference was around 1 second a lap maybe slightly more/slightly less depending on track length.
some of the default setups are really bad though they dont even put you on the right engine map to get the most power also many times the aggressive setups just feel poorly balanced and can just be poor to drive unforgiving on curbs and just idk not great for long races.
keep in mind a good drive can hustle just about anything around and look good/be pretty fast so to compare to esports aliens is kind of not where the big difference is .5 second for them extends because us normal people are not able to correct the mistakes these setups are prone to as well so it could add 1-2-3 seconds a lap honestly for a normal player.
for me its usually around 1 second more on a longer 2 min+ lap time track and but the biggest thing is just feeling like the car is doing what i expect and having confidence that it is going to continue to do what i want even when pushing. for me i dont feel like i can safely push on the default setups maybe for 1 lap but doing 10 laps in a row is rough on a custom setup it is just like happening lol without extra thought or inputs/mistakes i can really get into the flow/zone and stay focused.
just my take some people dont agree but i dont think those people are "alien/pro" pace either although i am also not on that level.
and yea the 296 feels decent on the defaults but that doesnt mean it cant be better lol
here are some free setups from fri3d0lf on youtube you can download the link in the description and copy/paste it into your setup folder or just watch through the video but i think his game is in german or something lol also there is usually a qauly setup and race setup

Ive been watching Jardier, hes rapid, ive heard him mention PSI alot (and other youtubers). I will pay more attention to this when im racing. I was hoping that my slowness was down to my setup but i knew deep down the aliens are still going to kick my ass on the default setup. Im going to keep racing and looking for time, without worrying too much about setup (other than PSI). When i get closer to the fast guys i will start looking at setups more.
Even somrone like me who drives 30min/day can race between 1.8s to 4s off of the best possible times with default safe (depending on track and with minimal adjustments to engine map and brake bias, sure tyres pressure tpo but also some tracks I am 5s to 6s off, like Bathrust and Snetterton, I dont drive much at these and am bad there).
Terrible idea.
Keyboard + mouse could be mouse wheel as throttle + brake and mouse left and right movement as steering.
Simulators dont like on/off inputs of a keyboard.
I start from pits and finish 5th, 3rd or even 1st
Why even bother with sim racing if your going to do this, might as well go play Mario Kart.
I think your joking though.
I can accept rookies doing it because of lack of skill or lack of "how to proceed on race starts" but on purpose I prefer to just leave the "race" for you alone.
