competitive car?
hello, i been using the 488 gt3 evo for a long time but nowadays nobody is really using it and i feel that its getting slower, i race on lfm so what do you guys think is the most similar car to it which is still competitive and it can't be the 296 gt3 because sadly i dont have the dlc for it.

There are meta cars for some tracks. There are benefits to sticking to one car to feel confident anywhere but will be a bit off the top lap times. If you want to experiment it may benefit you. Unfortunately for you the 296 is strong most anywhere, good runner up is my goto the BMW M4.

There are more options depending on the track, check this out:

I would still be with the 488 EVO was it not for the lack of FFB feel (the new Ferrari have FFB almost the same as the FFB I used to have with the 488 EVO, thnks Kunos...).
I dont know about BoP tho but att the time I was returning to my previous best times in some tracks before I dropped it for the 296 that drives slightly different and on slightly different gear ratio for many turns meaning I had to learn the car before I started doing my prrevious best times again and it was harder on tracks I was too used with the 488 EVO (harder to let go of the driving behavior and gear ratios I was used to before)

Well, according to the CDA link you sent:
THE BEST ACC CARS FOR HIGH-SPEED TRACKS
Falling under the high-speed track category is:

Silverstone
Circuit Paul Ricard
Mount Panorama
Monza
Spa-Francorchamps
The best car for this type of track is the Audi R8 GT3 EVO II. A consistently strong contender since it arrived as part of the Challengers Pack DLC, the latest car to carry the famous four rings to join the GT3 party is still in a class of its own in the high-speed tracks.
THE BEST ACC CARS FOR MEDIUM-SPEED TRACKS
The tracks classified as medium-speed are:

Kyalami
Nurburgring
Misano
Suzuka
Barcelona
Imola
Donington
Snetterton
Circuit of the Americas
Indianapolis
The best car for this type of track is the all-new Porsche 992 GT3 R. Joining the Ferrari and the Lamborghini as one of the newest cars in the sim, it is also the latest in a long lineage of frontrunning Porsche GT3s both in the real world and in the sim.
THE BEST ACC CARS FOR LOW-SPEED TRACKS
The tracks that fall under the low-speed category are;

Laguna Seca
Zandvoort
Zolder
Hungaroring
Brands Hatch
Oulton Park
Watkins Glen
Valencia
The best car for this type of track is the Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO. The oldest car on this list, first arriving as part of the 2020 GT World Challenge DLC, the traits that make this car the top of its class at low-speed tracks have carried across successive versions of Assetto Corsa Competizione.

Neither the 296 or the ne McLaren are listed there.
Tho I would like to know the real difference between the cars on all tracks (that I think before it used to vary from 0.1s to 0.7s difference from faster (benchmark) to slower in worst case scenarios, on esports alien levels of lap times. (I dont remember where I saw this list so I dont know wheere to search).

OK, I looked up my Lap records

24 Tracks. The fastest was:

Ferrari 296
13x
Audi
4x
Porsche
3x
McLaren
2x
Lambo and BMW
1x

Yes, the 296 is my most driven car, so this is no surprise.
However, the lap records from my 4 test tracks where I drove the most and tested all the cars are interesting.

Kyalami > Audi
Watkins Glen > Audi
Paul Ricard > Ferrari
Oulton Park > Audi

What's even more interesting is that I don't like the Audi at all and have only driven it very little.
What does that tell us?
I have no idea. ;-)

It tell us your driving style may fit better the Audi and goes against the CDA charts where according to CDA Audi is better at Silverstone, Circuit Paul Ricard, Mount Panorama, Monza and Spa-Francorchamps but you was faster with it at medium speed and low speed tracks.
It is more about the driving style (and sure skills and understanding too) than the car itself, the car may be "the best" at a certain track but if it dont fit you it will not be the fastest "for you".

You have two options really :
- enjoy the game at your level with the car you love.
- fall into a fomo need to drive the busted car of the week and fail at both performing well and enjoying your time.

Your call.
jellobiafra Feb 12, 2024 @ 2:59am
My conclusion is that I should drive more Audi. ;-)
And that i should not ask random people from the internet what ist the best car for me.
You have to try it out.
Why not Bentley?
I just did 4 quick laps and was already only 0.5 sec. behind the Ferrari.

The META cars at the moment are very simple to find, spend a few hours in any server and all you will see winning is the 296 720 EVO primarily, new 911, BMW M4 and occasionally the new Lambo

Those cars, particularly the 720 have a significant advantage over anything older as the physics and tyres etc in the game have been built into those cars primarily as they are the newest cars.

With anything older you are in lucks hands, you either get a decent setup on an older car, or you get a garbage one, the old Audi;s for example used to be both great cars but with one of the recent updates became instant trash. Same as others like the Jag which was a missile on some tracks.

On the other hand some have been improved on some tracks even hideous stuff like the Reiter is now usuable, the old Aston v12 can be too and the old Bentley.

If you truly understand setups and the quirks needed to get the best out of them, you will still really be able t use anything except for real dross like the old NSX and 650 McLaren but there are very few people who really fully understand not just setups but the game physics and what the changes do, as in real life they do one thing, but here they do not necessarily do the same thing or cause the same strong reaction.

The best guys understand all this AND are very fast, the two are very much hand in hand.

the 720 is the most closely matched to the 296 and has a simple learning curve, in the absence of the dlc i'd default to the 720 on most tracks because even with the recent nerf it is very strong.

just because you can do your fastest lap in a car doesnt mean its the car you can drive well for 30min-1 hour or that your enjoying driving the car lol.

i would say right now theres actually quite a few decent cars the nissan is pretty nice right now seems like the lexus and bentley are doing ok as well a month ago these would not really be options but they are now.

the ferrari 488 is ok and if your doing stuff with LFM bop is probably fine but may be hard to use on the stock BOP.

i would say other than the major view change the aston martin V8 is probably going to be a really nice less stressful car to drive good over curbs and bumps very good with LFM bop decent with stock bop fast on the straights good mid speed cornering pretty easy to drive in general could be good to check out you probably would want to use a custom view as its very different in a front engine car compared to the 488.

anyways mclaren 720 evo is good but pretty boped on LFM bop dont really see them in the top as often anymore with the LFM bop still fast/good but with stock bop still very fast good overall in either case

anyways it just makes it tough now days with multiple bop that are changing pretty much the newest year version of most of the cars is doing pretty well sadly you dont have access to all the newest versions so i would just pick from the ones you do have access too m4 720evo

anyways i just would use w/e you like maybe drive the 720evo for a few days and compare if its worth it to change over or not everyone is different the reason i say use the 720 evo is because its the newest gt3 to the game so that will give you the clearest answer if the new car is better or not use it for a week then go back to the 488 and see if you prefer it or not.

well, OP there is a lot of good feedback here and the point is you don't have to spend on the the DLC just to have the best car. The article is a starting point to not spend time on non competitive cars, but it may not be the best fit for you. It starts with some general top 3 (296, M4 and Lambo) as overall suggestions, and then some different ones depending on the type of track. The people doing these tests are way beyond my skill level so I take it as a place to start, not the only ones to use as the Porsche for me is unruly and hard to control at the limit. Experiment with different cars for situations or get really solid in a car you like to drive. Point is to have fun doing it, not torture yourself to seek a few tenths compared to aliens. Get out there and practice is the best way to improve, adding too many variable can make that harder.

i've been trying the m4 and 720 so far and i like the 720 more and i'm pretty quickly catching up to how i drove with the 488. The m4 is also good but for me it took a bit more getting used to.
