to pit or not

Do i have to pit to swap drivers in the last few minuets of a endurance race. Is it voluntary or will I get a D,Q. And whats longest race y'all do. I just finished 2 hour race at circuit paul ricard and come in dead last because it wanted me to pit with 5 minuets left.

If you are green with the mandatory pit stop (UI bottom left) and the max stint leght x Driver then you don't have to pit.

There is pit window.
Go before or after the pit window and I think it will not count for the mandatory pit (meaning if you pit after pit window closed it will not count, there may be a "min amount of laps" each driver have to do and not folowing it is like not having enough fuel after race on F1, you may get a DSQ or dead last for that).
As HomerJay said, pay attention to mandatory pit stop light and go when it shows up so there is no "mistake" from you.

usually there is a 10-20 min pit window in the middle of the race depending on settings it will say pit window open and have a timer at the top middle of the screen that tells you how much time you have to pit

there are also races that do not have a pit window and you can pit anytime between the 2nd(i think) and last lap.

there are also different requirements sometimes you need to change tires or add fuel or driver swap sometimes all 3 sometimes just 1 is required you have to know the rules for the specific race

if you miss the pit window or do not do all the requirements it will not count as a pit stop and you will get a penalty

I know the rules for a mandatory stop, I understand that. what im saying is, if theres no mandatory stop do i have swap drivers when the game tells me to. Like last time, i had just changed drivers with 6 minuets left before the counter ended, I did like 3 laps then it told me to change drivers again. The driver i changed to had 20 minuets left and like 10 left before the race ended.
