this
the EU region has hourly CP races that are 30 mins each
there is really no ranking or anything for the comp servers just a number on your car once your in the top 1000 your car will be 999 or w/e corresponding to your rank if your 1000+your not ranked yet i guess?
really the best part of the comp server races is you can actually chat with people and possibly learn some stuff or make a friend or something lol
I would say lowfuelmotorsport.com sadly is the way to go its very easy to use you log in with your steam account/link it you do need to do a license test that is usually a very easy lap time i think you have to do 7 clean laps under a specific lap time on there server then you can compete in the daily events it is def the most popular thing right now they have hourly races and even endurance it also sounds like kunos is not going to be working on ACC online system anymore and will be trying to support these 3rd party sites like lowfuelmotorsport and simgrid sgp personally i do not like this because you have to navigate out of the game but it is what it is.
there are tons of splits also rules against chatting and you can report people if you think you were purposely taken out also stats and ratings so you can track your progress and everything if only this system was built into ACC it would be amazing.
Edit. I'm in the EU.
you will probably have to spend at least 5-10 hours just getting your rating up enough to be able to join a competition server race I would recommend just setting up some races vs the AI and starting at the back and just kind of try to follow them but not crash at all even if someone hits you and its not your fault it will take safety rating away i would do a 10 min race on each track with the AI this should get all your ratings where you need them.
either way ACC is probably going to be slightly harder than gt7 and much more of a hardcore sim racing game while gt7 is like a simcade a mix of simulation and arcade so the learning curve of ACC could be a little more challenging than you would expect I also think on ACC its much more about picking a car you like and improving your driving skill rather than having a bunch of cool cars to mess around in. each car is very different on ACC and just switch cars you might be a few seconds a lap slower until you learn to drive that car right or get the setup right.
ALSO VERY IMPORTANT after 2-3 laps your tires should be 27.5-27.8 psi for maximum grip.
when you start they will be a little colder and have less grip this is why you check after 2-3 laps lets say they are only at 27.0 after 3 laps then you would go into the setup and put the tire pressure up .5-.7 and do 3 more laps and check again then you would save that setup and put the air/track temperature in the title of the save I E monza 26c then lets say you join a race at monza but its 23c you would have an idea that you need to go down .2-.3 on your tire psi
also the brake ducts effect can effect the tire psi too so more or less if its really cold you want less brake ducts so the heat from the brakes will warm the tires up more for higher psi.
and higher brake ducts when its hot so more air cools the brakes and tires down leading to lower psi.
it sounds complicated and it sort of is but once you sort of figure it out its just the normal stuff you check during the practice/qualifying session anyways there is probably much more going on and to consider than something like gt7
This sim is best for:
Hotlapping
Racing the AI
Racing online? Uh, no.
