I think there even going back to there own engine for AC2 rather than use unreal again.
https://www.overtake.gg/news/assetto-corsa-2-launching-spring-2024/
They can use their ACC UE4 knowledge and port some stuff. :)
They are making their own engine, unreal engine didn't work out the way they wanted it to and this caused a scaling back of some features that were promised from the start. Unreal engine just wasn't the best solution for a racing simulator although overall they did well with it even though things like VR and tripple screen support suffered. Which is why they stated early on that they will not be using unreal engine.
"“We are developing new technology for the [Assetto Corsa 2] engine. We will not use Unreal because we need greater flexibility,” highlighted Massarutto."
And, if it doesn't come with a rookie class Formula car, like the Tatuus in AC 1, then I'll be seriously disappointed. 😉
Oh, and the choice of a house made engine is surely the right decision. The Unreal Engine doesn't seem to be perfectly suited for such a game. There were quite a lot of issues in ACC with it.
I think there will be another big update later after this, because earlier they said an GT2 pack will come with the Maserati MC20 GT2 and some other cars
