The original ac i think is easy to run in vr, being an older title and all, has loads of mods avaliable, that where i would start personally, and the full game can be had for dirt cheap.
original AC casual driving/drifting maybe online cruzing lobbies probably not many races online the original AC also has many mods free/paid wait for a sale get it for cheap.
ams2 has come pretty far i really like the GT1 cars VR works good compared to ACC still probably need a pretty good pc though there are some online casual races not a ton though. you can even make online lobbies with AI and friends just not much real serious racing that i know of still can really have fun if you find a good lobby has a lot of variety but does not do everything that great where ACC has less cars/classes but every car is done really well
ACC you really need a pretty good pc to run this in VR and expect to probably still spend some time doing research and trying things to get peak performance. maybe if you have a 4090 or something it would work good without a lot of tuning lol.
for online racing ACC is much better you would probably want to join simgrid and lowfuelmotorsports though its free also usually need a discord account if you really want to get the most out of it there is much less content mostly GT3 and i think a cup car in the stock content but the cars are much better to drive and each car feels like something different and takes different driving style the skill level is pretty high online as well most likely your not going to just have like a chill online race lol its going to be intense especially in VR i dont really do VR very often i have a rx6800 and 13600k it works ok on a lenovo explorer but idk def have to really lower the resolution and make it look not as good as i would expect compared to ams2 and the original AC
the online racing experience in VR is still the best in ACC just because the racing is much more intense you dont notice the lower quality when your really having a good race.
First, I do have tried AMS2 demo and it is boring (sorry), even though I understand practice running the circuit is very essential but the demo is so dry that I being to question the simulation model of a VW Polo GTi, not to mention the sense of speed is totally disappointing.
Again, thanks but no online racing. I now have a rather decent PC on R7 5800x3D, 32GB RAM and yes, a RTX 4090. My racing "gear" is a simple TM GT-80, not to mention my driving skill is very bad.
As my handle suggests, I mostly fly so I see racing sim a nice little distraction.
Go and have a look at the prices of these games over at cdkeys and buy them all.
well honestly ACC is probably going to give you the most real simulation of hardcore racing but i mean also expect if your racing online that people are going to seem like aliens pace most likely the skill level is pretty high i would imagine 500+ hours is probably like low-average amount of play time for many people with a lot probably having 1000+ hours in the game so idk its a tough place to start. there are slower public lobbies but also a bit of a wreckfest
i have also heard the ams2 demo is really bad compared to the actual game but something about it does feel idk less simulation than ACC but idk honestly some cars are not great to drive but many are pretty nice and there is much more to try out and the overall skill level if you do race online is not super high most people seem to be focused on casual fun more than hardcore simulation type racing you get on ACC.
its sort of hard to say what would be best for you as someone who is just not as into the hobby as i used to be ACC is really hard to just idk have fun with and not grind out practice sessions and setup work before every race just to try and keep up with the pack.
unless your into offline play witch really in ACC you have to either find online practice lobbies or practice offline quite a bit just to have a idk average pace many people are straight up taking it very serious and practicing every day and trying to become esports level drive on ACC i dont think this is something that is even a thought on ams2.
to me ACC is going to be the closest to real life Gt3 series racing your gonna get and probably the closest to real racing sim out but that is probably just my opinion i dont think ams2 is really in the same class as far as simulation gos and is kind of a simcade somewhere between arcade and simulation.
anyways its kind of hard to say especially sense you cant feel the force feedback(i think) many times that is more what leads people to liking the way a game feels/drives responds and what not.
i would juust say everything on ACC is quite a bit more refined and focused with less content so all of it is very good.
ams2 just has so many different cars that some of them just seem to not be very good and that is probably what your experiencing in the demo. i also just find it to be a little idk harder to find a nice camera setting out of the box(maybe less of a issue with VR though)for me ams2 really just was hard to get a good camera setup on a normal monitor it really bounced around way to much for my liking.
keep in mind on steam you have 2 hours to refund so i would honestly buy ACC and play it for an hour if you dont like it refund it try ams2 for an hour if you dont like it refund it lol i would also just say that not having force feedback in your steering wheel your probably missing out on 50% of the fun/immersion and what makes these racing games stand out or not stand out.
also i feel like the interior of the cars in ACC is so life like every wire/brake line/bolts/roll cage/safety stuff with labels and everything is inside the cars if you go into the replay mode you can use the free camera and just kind of look around at all the stuff inside the car in VR its really done well and impressive all the details they included.
