Controller v Wheel?
I use xbox controller and i'm finding it really hard to get good laptimes e.g. Monza i can get down to 1:49.8 in the ferrari 488 but nowhere near 1:47 / 1:46 that a "good" driver would get

It feels like i can't get the same level of acceleration out of corners as faster drivers and so lose time. Not sure if this is because of not being able to trailbrake (either thru lack of skill or because of difficulty trailbraking with controller?)

My question is, should it be possible to match the pace of wheel users or is it expected that using a controller will not match the laptime of a wheel user because of how the sim or how the wheel/controller setup works?

(and yes, i have tried every combination of controller settings i can find on utube.... as well as a few different car setups)

Do you use steer helper? What other games do you play? Gamepad is great but always depends on your goals. Maybe you woudln't be faster on a wheel? Somebody else could be.

It's great you work on your gamepad skill.

i have tried steer assist enabled and disabled, disabled allows you to thru the back end out alot more easily but i dont get better laptimes up to now so i stick to steer assist enabled..

Yeah, I can imagine that. It's a helper so it could slows you don't a bit but the skill level for it would be very high.

I don't use it and no aids at all but I am hardly competitive. Still I am rather new and it's not a wheel, it needs years to build good skill.

What about physics change after 1.8? I think it's much more gamepad friendly now. Do you like it more?

honestly only really good drivers are doing 48s and less consistent even with a wheel 1.46 on monza is alien driver and probably only under the right cold conditions with hardly any fuel.
i think i have like 30-40 hours on monza alone and i only have hit a 48.9 once or twice sense the 1.8 update on a thrustmaster tmx wheel was doing 48.5 pre 1.8. its also one of my worst tracks and i am def not fast or a great driver but i dont see tons of people doing 46s or 47s sense the 1.8 update expect to spend 100s of hours on monza to get to that pace.
i think ive only done about an hour of driving on monza sense 1.8 i usually avoid it because it just feels like 90% chance of being wrecked.
i think you just dont realize how much time people have put in to get those really good lap times not just in there practice but in there car setups and understanding how the game physics work studying there replays to make sure there lines are perfect.
really 49s is not bad on a controller in my opinion and it took me a long time myself to get out of the 49s like 700 hours of ACC lol and really sense 1.8 update im more in the 49s unless track conditions are perfect and low fuel.
i would just say keep on practicing it takes time honestly i would race other tracks besides monza sometimes you can just get burnt out on a track or stuck in a bad groove that isnt helping you improve.

Ok thanks for those words, i have been spamming monza for a couple of weeks now and went from 1:52 down to 1:50 it just feels like i have hit a brick wall in terms of getting any faster but as you say, have to accept that the game is tough, i certainly dont understand any of the setup information, and some people are from Mars lol
