i never tried VR, but everybody says that AC1 is much better in VR, performance wise.
IMO you should start with some stable cars like lexus, aston, merc or the ferrari.
also, this will help you a lot (not only with the setups)

this is the guy who made the physics in both assettos. bookmark his channel and watching some of his content could help you to better understand competizione and maybe improve.
good luck
Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the link. I really like ACC and I want to be good at it and be competitive in this sim. I feel that my setup are terrible and seems like people are flying by me like i'm standing still but I'm already pedal to the metal so I can't figure it out. I'm doing the same line and same braking point as the fast guys but i seem to be still so slow. During fixed races in AC, I'm very competitive as I don't have to worry about car setup and just focus on driving.
I will check out his videos and I hope to see you on the track soon.
Start off with aggressive setup and adjust tyre pressures for the correct temperatures. Tyre pressures/temps in ACC is vital. That's all you need to do to start with and should be enough to make you competitive.
Then other simple adjustments like brake bias and brake pads 1 for short races. You may prefer lower TC/ABS on some cars/in some conditions. More complex setup than this will probably only bring you a few tenths at best.
I just got a new GPU and combined with a VR mod I finally have good perfs and visuals in ACC so I try to play it more seriously and love it but...
While I felt I had a correct level in other games (at least for someone not involved in setups), and since I tried a race on spa with default AI settings and found it too easy, I started a career in difficult mode and oh my gosh. 3 races 3 times last or 15th over 16 racers.... I don't even dare to try online... I feel other cars are in another category, even when I feel I am not so bad in my driving I am at the level of the worst drivers of my career mode
-its funny ac is really hard for me to drive compared to acc because ive played alot more acc so i think its just about adapting to each sim there all going to be a little different.
ACC is for the hardcore imo after 500 hours im still struggling to be honest lol also i dont think you should compare racing AI to the open lobbys theres going to be different class of driver in every race many times p1 and p2 are in a class of there own.
One thing i do is turn down the sounds for everything so the tire noises stand out this helps a little.
As far as vr gos it does take some research and tinkering
i rec checking out https://www.youtube.com/user/sky194 he puts his setups in every video and takes alot of time to set them up for tire wear and consistency its a good place to start.
setups are huge on ACC and will make the car handle extremely different some aggressive setups are ok but its very hit and miss for me and everyone has a slightly different driving style so you kind of need to dial in every setup a hair for yourself. if your spinning easy try lowering the rear or raising the front a click pay attention to aero balance so you have a idea of what you like when you use that car on a different track each car will need different setups for every track so it gets pretty taxing after a while and update changes constantly and takes about as much preparation time as race time.
