How do you start the car?
I want to play with a gamepad, and later, with a VR setup with a wheel and pedals. Just bought this. A bit frustrated so far. Can't start the engine. Pressing S, and enter, following keyboard commands in the menu (Shift+I). So far I think this is the dumbest purchase I've ever made. About to refund it. How do you start the engine? No key commands, and nothing I can do with the gamepad. Great game.

Dallas108 Sep 6, 2020 @ 8:42pm
Why remap when the defaults don't work?

Casual gamers and race enthusiasts alike should go back to Dirt 2.0. This flat out sucks. Poor damage modeling and a bad community. Also, it's fun to use punctuation when you're talking to other people through text as a medium. You have to punctuate; otherwise, people will take you for a dumbass. That is all.

I mean .. almost 90% of the people who've reviewed this game have given it a thumbs up. Have you confirmed the button mapping in the controls menu?

Got rid of it already. Playing Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 right now. I can start the plane, take off, fly anywhere I please, and as an added perk, I can control it :P Not being hostile. Newish Rig, RTX 2070, three different control schemes. Couldn't start the car. I'm guessing there was something in my system that made it impossible to control? The frustration lies in that I could press the accelerator, look my head left and right, apply the brakes, enter the pit menu, reach the main menu, change view angles, etc... And not start the car. Gold to some, crap to others. Cheers!

Also, holding the S button down made the engine want to turn over. Tried it in every engaged gear, and neutral, in the tutorial qualifier. Can't play a racing game if you use the control scheme and can't start the car.

Engine should start automatically by default, less if you set it to start by pressing a key on your keyboard.

I play it on a G29, I know people that play it on XBox controller, on PS4 controller . . hell, even on keyboard alone.

Sorry, the problem is obviously on your end and, by the fact you waited 9 minutes (after you started your topic here) then you posted this:

What mean you did not got to forum to try and find a solution to your problem, you just got here to rage and vent with poor ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about the game and the community (that didnt even had time to read what you wrote . . . unless you expected lots of people with any interest in reading the forum, help others and to be fully active on the forum, read your topic and reply to you in just a couple of minutes) by straight up calling the community as toxic (well . . . community dont have to help you much less react nice and friendly after, out of nothing, being called toxic.

I would say the problem with it all, game and forum, is really in your end.

We could start the conversation over, with how do you start the car? It should have been a simple conversation. No controller commands will start it. Shift+I won't start it. The S key won't start it, and neither will enter. So, rather than blathering on like pompous bloated assess, we could have acted like the Steam community should have acted, and talked about, erstwise, how to start the Frikkin' car.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out buddy.

maybe a simulator isnt the right game for you if you have issues binding controls and starting a car (or turning on an assist) :D

So you cannot start a car.. Its everybody else's fault but you, you run your mouth about everything and say its s..t and people are s..t and blaablaablaa.. How many times we have seen this same thing happen about someone, who is frustrated because they dont have skill even do one simple thing.. Dont try to teach your father how to have s.x... He already tried, and result is obvious. Dont make same mistake.. (family failure)

You made my day.

after 1700 hours in the game the car still starts its self for me. i think maybe you have turned off the automatic start somehow in the settings menus i would think it would be in the gameplay menu or something.

its in settings assists engine start (automatic) i just leave everything on automatic but turn off stability control and make the ideal line hidden and manual gear box everything else is automatic for me.

so the way i turn it off and start it when i want to do it my self is i pull up the hud its the menu that pops up on the left that shows your standings in the race you can cycle through this and a menu pops up that allows you to change TC ABS and a bunch of stuff at the bottom is IGNITION this has to be toggled on for the car to start(pressing left or right toggles this for me on my wheel d-pad or controller d-pad) below ignition is STARTER i press right on the d-pad to engage the starter and start the car.

i do keep it in automatic start mode though during the pit stops i turn off the ignition when going into the pit box and toggle it back on after they are performing the stop right when the time hits zero and the car starts dropping i press right on the d-pad while in the hud with starter selected to start the car.

I'm sorry but for everyone saying it's his problem it's really not, i have a Fanatec McLaren DD wheel which has a neutral button aka engine start as my mapped button and when the engine start was mapped to that button the engine didn't start. This feature is broken, yet here you all are slating the OP, i don't blame him for dropping the game with the dumb ass replies he got.

Can you blame him when the first reply he got was (ref below), I'm with the OP on this one, maybe if this community gave him some help then maybe you wouldn't of got the replies you all deserved.
