Braking/Downshifting what am I doing wrong?

I can't downshift half the times I try on the brakes, I know I am doing something wrong but what?

Sometimes I can downshift the moment I get on the brakes, others I have to wait for what feels like a second, same corners and roughly same speeds..

Which car are you using? Certain cars have a lower gear rpm limit and won't allow you to downshift if your above the gear's rpm limit. Higher-revving cars usually don't have a problem. I use the AMG and if I'm going to fast to downshift it won't let me change the gear until I go a little slower. What it all comes down to is knowing your car's tendencies...

Porsche is one of the cars that doesnt let you downshift too fast... its not slower because of it tho, its just different. :)

What Dave said... it is a rev-limiter protection... against overtorquing the engine (it would blow it up).

You can not downshift fast when you activate ABS or when you lock tyres.

Could you show a video of you driving?

You can not downshift fast when you activate ABS or when you lock tyres.

Could you show a video of you driving?

I was running aggressive setups by default with 3-4 ABS and 3 or so TC, after following a setup guide and running test laps over and over to refine everything I started to get some nice laps

I think the biggest thing was putting ABS on 5 and adjusting my driving style, when I tested higher ABS I didn't like the slower feeling in braking, I very much like the jerky and lose feeling but it seems in ACC it isn't viable.

This is the end of lap breaking my lap by 6 tenths then 3.5 the next full lap

Any other advice would be great

Hi, your not doing anything wrong mate, I have the same problem occasionally and it's NOT me, I'm in 5th gear at 40kph trying to negotiate a 1st gear corner because the damn thing won't kick down. It only happens occasionally in any car on any track so don't blame yourself mate, it's not your fault. I am not able to get good lap times because of this, and of course my driving isn't the best these days. But we do need to be listened to because the gear thing is a fault in the game for some but obviously not all.

What lap times you are doing?
Also, held at 5th gear at 40km/h? That would be a new to me.

Could you make a video, post at youtube and post link here, showing what happen with your throttle, brake, speed and revs?

Well, I did not see any problem, so by what you said:

I dont have much advise, my best lap is not far from your 1:29.9

I will get a video so I can show you what is happening, I run tc on 2 and abs on 1 so should not be any issues there.

Well, I agree there should be no issues there indeed, but 5th gear locked when you are already at around 40Km/h still a new to me, I could not replicate it to know how to avoid or fix the situation.
