Making FFB work for gamepad in Wheel mode?
hi all, I'm using my gamepad in wheel mode because it offers higher precision - I have gas/brake on the analog instead of triggers and steering on gyro. It works great except for rumbles which completely stop when I switch from gamepad mode to wheel in controls. Any solution to this?

Rumbles can not deliver FFB properly because FFB is not just a bunch of rumbles and FFB affect the steering wheel.
Probably rumble stop working because the game dont recognize FFB as rumble (because FFB that deliver "details of the track and car reactions right into steering wheel inputs to the user", have nothing to do with rumble that deliver just "there is something here").

That makes sense. I thought FFB and rumble are the same thing. I tried changing few things in json configuration (e.g. isGamepad=1) but I didn't make it work. I wish ACC was a bit more configurable.
Thanks for the answer.

Like, literally you feel the wheel heavier or lighter, the wheel auto-center on itself and even steer on itself (to the same direction you are turning or against the direction you are turning, where you have to fight the steering wheen), and FFB convey wheels lockup, track details, weight transfer and mechanical traits of the car that vary depending on what you do with your steering wheel and pedals.
That is not really much of a way for the rumble to emulate a FFB other than vibrating more or less.

What you can try on controller is to configure it with more or less sensitivity but to keep it as a gamepad.

(Same thing work wrong if you take a steering wheel as a gamepad, the wheel FFB will be kind of dumb, being just a little heavy or very light and delivering just rumbles as the game dont understand what is to be delivered as FFB as it is reading as gamepad).

Anyway, whenever you can, get yourself a basic Logitech (G27 or G29) or Thrustmaster FFB wheel, you wont be disappointed.

I've never played on a wheel with FFB but I can imagine it must feel great. At the moment I don't want to dedicate my desk space to the wheel and I'm not complaining about the precision that gyro steering gives me. By the way in the "gamepad mode" throttle and brake cannot be rebind from triggers to analog sticks. I gave rumbles a try and I quickly came to the same conclusion as you. It's a only dumb vibration and the car sounds give much more feedback so it's not worth the tradeoff.

Well, believe me, you wont ever go back to gamepad after you use a FFB wheel.
You will need to adapt at first, to pedals and a real wheel (not gyro) that reacts to the car, track and what you are doing, but the experience will be priceless when compared to gamepad.

I still use gamepad for other racing games like this one Xenon Racer, The Crew, NFS . . . these are fun and dont even make sense to use a wheel as the wheel dont deliver FFB neither recenter or anything else and these games dont have anything close to realistic anyway.

Still, you can be fast at ACC or whatever with gamepad, you just need to know what you are doing and adapt to the situation and, as you mentioned, the precision is not the same, doable but not the same.
