Assetto Corsa Competizione

Assetto Corsa Competizione

Should I even bother with a Logitech DFGT?
So I got a Logitech DFGT. The well known basic entry level wheel / sh*tty pedals, and I wonder if I would enjoy Assetto with this setup.

I've been watching a lot of good ol' Jimmy Broadbent and got a real itch for a sim racer, but I only got my DFGT that I've used for DiRT Rally and Euro Truck, and I'm thinking that it's too sh*tty of a setup to really enjoy a sim racer. Am I right or should I go ahead when there's a sale on either steam or elsewhere?

I think the wheel itself is quite ok, beyond the annoying a*s constant rumbling and noise, but the pedals are so sh*tty that I've thought about buying a better combo for years, but since I actually play racing games very little and can't actually afford a better setup right now, tho I really want to! And I wanna get into racing and see if I actually enjoy it in a sim.

TL;DR: Should I start driving with my entry level DFGT with it's sequential shifter and plastic no-feel pedals or not?

DFGT wheelbase is fine, as you say it's the pedals that are the problem. I'd say ACC is most likely "the best" sim to use crappy pedals on, as you can lean on ABS a lot here.

So as long as you understand that the pedals offer you at most as much as gamepad so not everything is possible, you'll be fine :).

Also note that for Jimmers and other streamers their racing rig is their work tool. You definitely don't need to have proffesional equipment to just have fun.
No, Fanatec is entry level if you are a serious simmer.
DFGT will do fine, it's a great wheel. Don't listen to elitists.
I had a logitech and it introduced me to modern racers, like AC RF2 and ACC. This will be a fabulous entry level to see if this is for you. And after that who knows. That logitech maybe a passing memory.
I got DFGT and first of all, DO THIS GUIDE

Logitech Driving Force GT Guide (Thanks to the maker)
The feel of the car and track gets waaay better than with default settings.
Secondly, If you or your friend got a 3d printer, or local company that takes 3d print orders. You probably want to check this paddleshifter mod out. I got one just today, and its whole different shifting feeling.

But dont worry, its not the best wheel in the market, but it does the job. This is actually my 2nd DFGT set. I sold 1st one out because I wasnt driving that much, but when I started again, I wanted it back :D
DFGT is just fine, you will get the itch for better equipment for sure but it dont really make you a better player, if your a good racer you will know your lines, know your braking points and put in good lap times, the wheel dont make you a great racer, the biggest upgrade is supposedly a load cell brake, im not there yet im currently using a T300RS today and im changing that saturday for a TGT, i also have the T3PA pro pedals, not a load cell brake but very nice pedals either way, im not quite ready for load cell just because you have to really stomp them to get good brake force and im just not prepared to put that effort in just yet. with practice you can be good with anything, except maybe the really really cheap wheels that dont offer good rotation.

I'm back on my DFGT because my ♥♥♥♥♥ fanatec wheel broke. DFGT is fine (except pedals) and going strong 10 years

Shouldn't have used it to dig the garden then /shrug.
I have a DFGT and bought g27 pedals second hands for 30 bucks. Connected the G27 pedals to an Arduino Uno ( 3 / 4 bucks in China for a clone ) With a db9 connector. Works perfect in every game.
Get yourself a better set of pedals. I imagine you can pick up the Logitech pedals that go with the g29 pretty cheap. Don't know if they are any good as I've never used them but most people I know that use them don't complain. You could get a different brand of pedals and buy an adapter for USB use but then it's getting a bit more expensive. I can recommend the t3pa pro pedals which I would say are the cheapest "good" pedals.

No, fanatec is not entry level.

Logitech/Thrustmaster is Low / Mid end.

Fanatec is Mid-high end.

Any DD is high end.
If you stay with the PEDALS you can do a few mods to them first one suggested by granturgismo!
1) You can open the pedal base and stretch the springs, they are tough to stretch with tools so eat your spinach :)
2) Or put a squishy ball behind brake :)

I have my DFGT at my Fiancees and stretched the springs, work fine.

LOL. That is absurd. Fanatec have some very high-end gear. In fact, quite the opposite is true to your comment. Fanatec doesn't make entry level gear. They make mid to high-end only. Of course you can go even more outrageous into direct drive gear but that's ultra-high-end gear that a fraction of a percentage of people use.

I'm an avid sim-racer too, but this elitist attitude is problematic. We should all want to encourage others to join our sport on any gear they can afford. If the DFGT is what is in your budget then go for it. You can certainly be a "Serious Simmer" on even a DFGT. The wheel doesn't matter, it's what is behind it.
