I guess it's only there, so you can directly see the changes and adjust your settings according to that.
Dont mess with FOV if you dont even know what it is.

There are other sites like these with apps to help calculating realistic fov for driving games.
I think the ideal Fov for racing is as close to realistic as possible but you should see the side mirror (location) of the car if possible (if playing on single screen).
I've to bump my FOV to 60 in both AC and ACC or I will get nauseous.
If your prefer realism over "60 degree tunelvision" (where the racing track feels like a 2meter wide sidewalk) than you should use a fov close to these suggestions. Beside a realistic fov will help you to find the perfect braking points on the track more easily and consistently.
I use 33 here and it feels right so don't worry to use something like this but if you used to 60 than you should try something between 35-45 first.
I also suggest you to use the helmet cam because its great in this game and give back some of the speed sensation you lost by setting lower fovs but than set the view back until you barely see the top and bottom side of the helmet from the inside. If you prefer the static cockpit view than I would set the camera with low fov as back as possible.
thank you! I just got the game and I was going crazy trying to find the goddarned FOV settings!
