Assetto Corsa Competizione

Assetto Corsa Competizione

Why so few people?
I really want to buy this game, but I am afraid that people will loose interest in this game and it will be dead in some months :/ What do you guys think?

Well, I don`t like to play on line, and so do a hudge amout of simmers. So, mesuring a sim by the number of on line players is incorrect. I have to say that I tried a lot of sim races tittels (almost all because i don`t like iRacing) and no one gives me such complete racing involvement and immersion. But this is a personal opinion. In my case, I rate ACC as the best sim in the market, although it is focused only in GT3 race.

My major sims
Automobilista: 15 hs - deleted
Assetto Corsa complete : 50 hr - deleted (I used to have a lot of 3th party cars and tracks and mods). Good FFB
Race Room Racing: 50 hrs - active and very competent. Lots of cars and tracks bought
Project CARS2: 220 hrs - active - FFB issues - already 8 months stopped
Assetto Corsa Competizione: 500 hrs - active - with TrackIR, MoTeC, ACC results and CrewChief. I can't stay a single day without even making a hot lap. Fantastic sim!!!!
More difficult to drive, more realistic!

This is why most of the normal drivers/players don't like the game.

I am happy with it, but it's hard work.

The problem with this game and its longevity is that multiplayer is still based on the old server list system. You'll find the "matchmaking" option, but apparently it's just a randomization to enter the same servers on the list. When you have this system, multiplayer simply becomes sterile and monotonous. The absence of a "forcing" of a system based - exclusively - on matchmaking, give freedom to players to choose on which track to play, and the result that is obtained is about 3 tracks out of 10 played. In this case, in ACC you can only play Monza, Spa, and occasionally Silverstone. The rest of the servers with different circuits is simply a mortuary and makes the experience highly repetitiveand this is made even more critical by the option of the servers which are for the most part static and equal. I don't remember having a race in cloud or rain recently, or even at night. Simply everything the same.

In addition to the server list, and to a secondary matchmaking (however based on server list), you will find the "Competition" option to enter the lobby that I honestly do not know, since I have never entered because Safety Rating restriction. And here we add another piece to the critical aspects of this game: the safety rating, required by the "Competition" mode. This Safety Rating does not want to know to go up, and to me it remains constantly on a value of 67.

The Safety Rating is surely the reason why most people give up playing in a "serious" and constant way this game, or to abandon it.

First of all because, progressing so slowly, it forces you to play with people whose only purpose is to throw the others out, and by crashing into you, they also remove points from your safety rating, and you remaining relegated to the servers full of noob and rammers. Beyond this, the safety rating is also active in offline sessions, even in free practice, and cannot be deactivated as far as I know. So even just training or having a friend play in singleplayer mode means that you will be penalized even for multiplayer.

So to summarize: a poorly developed Safety Rating system, added to a monotonous and repetitive multiplayer compartment, caused by the lack of available variety of servers with circuits, weather conditions, race modes, and race times, ensuring that there are few people to also play it with respect to titles of the same genre.

I won't add a wall of text here for me it's simple. Unreal engine sucks.
The AA is a blurry mess and strains my eyes after 15 minutes.
ACC is a fantastic sim running on the wrong engine.
Acc Servers are more active on the weekends than during the week, but you can get races during the week. In my area there are about 7 servers usually active during the week.
The problem lies in the fact that it doesn't matter if you finish a race on first place or dead last. There is no progression. At least in PCars2, you have rating for public races, yet people were not hooked to that eiter. Scheduled races every hour would fix all these problems. We already have kind of that by those CP Servers, but no one wants to race for 60 mins. Even iRacing doesn't do that.
As stated above by several, correctly, there is no real matchmaking system. It's completely random. If I join a server, I may be joining during qualify, or the race itself already in progress. Also, I may be joining a server with noobs or with aliens. Depending on who is in a particular server you will either be able to keep pace with a couple of the guys in there or you will be slaughtered by the aliens. This is what a real matchmaking system is supposed to do and prevent. But no such system exists in ACC. So, to just enter randomly and get destroyed and then have no progression whatsoever gets old very quickly and serves no purpose.
Then to top it off, the aliens themselves are unable to really properly race. When they come up behind you, then will not wait for a proper opportunity to overtake. They just ram you out of the way. So I find that no matter what server I join it all leads to a mockery of what real racing is and is expected to be. So, in the end, this is no sim. At least as far as MP is concerned. The single player I enjoy, but MP needs a complete overhaul to be successful.

The option to deactivate the ratings and/or the statistics in single player has been added in v1.1

Where is this option?

In your general gameplay settings, but it only works in singleplayer.

If youve noticed, the only sim games still truly alive and well are iRacing and GT Sport - neither are brand new releases: in fact iRacing is very old.

What do these two have in common other than the genre and subgenres?
PROPER MULTIPLAYER.

Competizione's multiplayer is just as bad as anything else. Same for the first assetto, ams, pc2, rfactor 1/2, and every other sim game.

A great game gets some people interested. A great game with a proper multiplayer system that works well keeps people hooked for long, which in turn gets the game much more players.

But remember iRacing might be the oldest popular sim atm but its nothing like what it used to be 10 years ago. They update the game every year and add new tracks and cars every once in a while... albeit slower than some other games but still do. They just added rallycross last year.

The development is strong since they have no intention in developing a sequel nor do they make other games. GT Sport as an example will get a sequel at some point and the development of the game is already quite slow.
GT is more of a simcade than pure sim... but its multiplayer structure is very good so the accessibility and the multiplayer keeps it alive for sure. Its also cheaper than iRacing.

ACC multiplayer structure is pretty bad because theres no incentive in playing it... so people wont. Theres no progression of any kind. I have raced a few times in the past days to try out the new update and its been fun but since theres no structure i end up racing against people who are quite trash... or a few who use actual setups and are just too damn fast.

So theres really no competition to be had... its either race against people who can barely keep the car on track or struggle against pros with very good setups for the cars they drive.

If ACC would introduce fixed servers like iRacing has... you cant adjust the setup at all so then everyone would be driving exactly the same car, that would make it so driver skill is the only factor for winning. It would also make it more accessible to people, not everyone can keep the car on the track but even less people can create a competitive setup for a car.
It's a good game but, want online you have iRacing, want offline you have rFactor 2 and Raceroom with much more content so maybe that's why it has less people. In my case I like racing AI and in ACC it's not that good. But still a nice game, will get better and better with time

Don't make excuses for ACC here. They can make a better system. Plain and simple.
