Refesh rate issue
I have a 27'' 1920x1080 144Hz monitor Asus VG278HV
I bought a new graphics card Asus RTX2080s
New card dosent have DVI-D which is required to run monitor at 144Hz
So now restricted to 60Hz using DP to DVI-D adaptor.
It will stretch to 120Hz but it dosent like it.
Every time I start the system, I get the warning message, "Use correct cable. Please use the duel link DVI-D cable that came with your monitor"
Well I am using that cable, but through a adapter at the GPU end.
I dont really want to fork out a grand for a new monitor.
Anyone know a way around this ?
Thanks

I'd try any other connection without an adaptor. HDMI should even do for 1080p @ 144Hz.

can you just use dp to dp?

Monitor has HDMI, DVI-D & D-Sub
GPU has HDMI & DP
HDMI direct comes through at 50Hz

Welp, honestly I guess next time you should do a better job of researching the ports on the graphics card you're trying to buy. You kinda screwed yourself

But honestly it should be easy to convert a DVI-I to DVI-D bc they're the same except it also outputs an analog signal. So in theory, an adapter for DVI-I to DVI-D should work fine because all it's doing is ignoring the analog signal.

Most of the top new cards seem to have done away with DVI

Actually converting DataPort to DVI
Didn't really think it would be a problem.
I'm currently using one of these http://www.dynamix.co.nz/C-DPAC-DVI

But are concidering geting one of these https://www.startech.com/AV/display-and-video-adapters/Displayport-Adapters/Active-DisplayPort-Dual-Link-DVI-Video-Adapter-Converter~DP2DVID2

Cheaper than a new monitor if it works.

You could try an HDMI to DVI adapter rather than DP to DVI. The HDMI on your GPU should output 144hz no problem (it's the HDMI in on the monitor that is the limiting factor in this case)

Dosent seem to be any easy solution , so are currently looking at Asos Rog Swift PG279Q

Maybe also try forcing with a custom resolution in the control panel if you haven't yet
XenoMight47 Nov 20, 2019 @ 10:05pm
Just get a new hdmi cable that will support 144hz
rocky28965 Nov 20, 2019 @ 10:23pm
Resolution is not a problem.
Using the current adaptor, refresh rates up to 144Hz are shown in advanced display settings.
Anything higher than 60Hz I get the warning on the monitor.
Higher than 100Hz I get occational flashes in the graphics.
It will run ok at 100 but the damn warning keeps poping up.
If I could get rid of that, it would be good.
Have to push the menue buttom on the monitor to clear it.

Correction to post #3
HDMI will run at 60Hz.
Also tried HDMI to DVI-D & that is the same.

The monitor will only support 144Hz through DVI-D
Its in the specs.

XenoMight47 Nov 20, 2019 @ 10:40pm
You might want to recheck the specs
XenoMight47 Nov 20, 2019 @ 10:40pm
are you using an hdmi 1.4 cable?
Captain Barracuda Nov 20, 2019 @ 10:46pm
Nah it's an older monitor, it only supports 60hz over HDMI regardless of the rating of the HDMI cable. It only supports 144hz over DVI. Shame HDMI to DVI-D doesn't help, a different screen might be the only solution.
