Graphics settings in VR
Hello

I have a gtx 1080 and an i7 2600 (not the best cpu i know). The game seems to perform well when i play solo, but as soon as i add 5 other cars, the performance takes big dip and starts to stutter. What settings do you guys recommend for smooth performance in VR?

This is an old video when the game first released vr. Also his focus on more on getting better graphics. Is there a more current and uptodate guide or settings that someone has tried with the latest version of the game?
Yes. It is old. But there is no video for the latest version. Maybe it helps a little bit.
Game isn't optimized for VR currently. I can't even run it well enough on a 2080ti. It's barely playable on somewhat acceptable quality settings. Give Kunos time, it'll come. I'd rather they hash out the real issues first like they have been.

Odd' iv'e a smooth stutter free experience with the game running at 2.0 in the SteamVR density scale. It looks great and runs with a full grid of AI. The last couple of patches seemed to have smoothed out the look to make it a little less sharp than it was, and there's still ghosting on the replays, but overall it performs now on a level with AC or Pcars 2 in VR on the track.

I honestly have no idea where you're coming from with barely playable. Online i'm holding it down with the best, picking up podiums and having the one of the best VR racing experiences available.... living the dream:104:

*edit, Perhaps the Vive Pro is the tipping point?

Something i fear when the Index arrives. I seem to have hit a sweet spot with performance and demand on the hardware (og VIVE), with the increase on demand i fear losing that.

Yes, my normal Vive can be super sampled to 200% with 200 pixel density on all medium/high settings and it looks and runs good, but with the higher resolution on the Pro it looks and runs horribly.

That's why I believe it isn't optimized for VR completely. With the generation of HMDs coming out, the game isn't ready.

i have gtx 1080 and i5 2500.
i dont play in vr but this is not the point.

you need constant fps. so you have to lower the details and enable vsync.

i play at epic with low mirror at 60fps or 50fps and it works smooth.
when you need 90fps for vr, you must lower the graphic detail.

and dont play with AI cars. that is very cpu intense.

Yes i do not have problem playing solo on a track. Thing is I can play other games like project cars 2 with lots of cars without such a performance drop. It could take for optimization to smooth things out. In the meanwhile, i was hoping people could identify settings or options which are most taxing, allowing us to have playable frame rates when racing with other cars

May I suggest you check your CPU usage? ACC is quite CPU heavy, especially in VR. And an 2600 (non-k?) wont cut it for many other cars and AI, im afraid.

I cant give you a recommendation hardware-wise, but a 6600k with 25% overclock was just about enough to run it smoothly with 24 AI.

You might want to keep an eye on it, and maybe - if needed - check some second hand websites for a cheap upgrade kit with 6600k / 7600k - those being rediculously cheap at the moment, while having huge potential in terms of single core performance and OC-ability.

Game still doesn't advertise VR on the store page, they probably don't feel it's quite ready to be a selling point yet. Not surprising considering how demanding VR racing is.

P cars and most other Sims use dumbed down pyhics for ai. ACC and AC AI use the same physics as the player which puts a lot more load on the CPU.
Ryzen 1600 with gtx1070: I've set every thing to low, then turned res scale back to 100, pixel density 1.20, shadows mid. Pixel density has the biggest effect on clarity. I can play with a full grid at night and rain.
Ill try to lower all settings and see how that goes. then ill increase them one at a time and see how it goes.
oh yeah that's using ASW 45
