Personal Update
Hello everyone,

It’s been too long since I shared an update with you on the development of Pax Nova. I know in my last update I said I would communicate better with you, and I haven’t – so the time has come to address why.

Two months ago I started experiencing pain and irritation in my eyes, which I thought was just caused by bad allergies. As time went by and the situation got worse I was still resistant to visiting a doctor during the Covid-19 pandemic, so I let it linger. Eventually I gave in and was diagnosed with an eye infection, which had now gone out of control and caused havoc to my eyesight. I am currently undergoing thorough treatment to cure it, and there is still a possibility of permanent damage to my eyes and sight as a result.

The timing couldn’t have been worse. It became literally physically painful to work on Pax Nova in the last few days before release and the weeks afterwards. As the sole programmer on the team, being unable to work for so long delayed everything – including the localizations which were expected to be there at release, as well as subsequent patching post-launch.

I tried to keep this private until now, which is why I’ve been so absent. Thankfully I am now recovering and back working on Pax Nova. There are several requested fixes to address, languages to implement and feedback to respond to.
I want to say how much I really appreciate the time you’ve all spent playing the game since launch, and I’ll address what I can as fast as I can.

Hey Mike,
Thanks for sharing this with us. As a product designer myself, stuff that affects your eyesight can be really really scary. Hope you will have a speedy recovery and take the time you need to recover. While we'd all love to see speedier updates to the game, I don't think anyone would take that above your well being. In the mean time, we'll just keep posting what we find :)

Thanks a lot for the understanding and the kind words everyone !
My eyes are getting much better, feel free to keep posting bug reports, suggestions and whatever else you feel like as I'm reading through them even if I don't reply.

Fingers crossed that there is no long-term impact on your vision. Take care.

Sad to hear you have health problems. I hope you get well soon. The game looks awesome. I usually wait until a game gets its bugs and early problems fixed, and I'm planning to buy this game as soon as it gets a major update.
