[question] %-treasure and Level-up Skills
Really enjoying the first couple hours of the game so far. I am even playing on a really old desktop computer, and it is running fine (except for the introduction video playback).

Got two questions for you:

At the end of the game level, it shows a treasure-box and a %-sign. What exactly is that showing? At the end of Chapter One, I have 80%, but I cannot imagine what I missed. I even went through the level again, but did not see anything that I missed. Are there secret rooms or maybe there are unusual treasure drops?

Another, bigger question that I have been wondering is how skill points are gained, when a character levels-up. It does not make a lot of sense why a character is given a bonus to magic / attack / health, and those stat points change the way the cards are used, too. Are the points given randomly or is there a way to control which are given, though using different types of cards?

Thanks for the great addition to the steamworld universe :dungeonsaxe: :swhpiper: :swdtrilobite:

I noticed that % means how many treasure chests have you found. There are secret passages and hidden chests behind obstacles.

there are secret areas that don't show on the map, usually at either end of the room

Thanks.. that information helps a lot to find the extra treasure.

Where is that screenshot taken? Could not find it in Act 1...

It's in Chapter two.

Only thing I don't like so far about the game is the % treasure and the need to completely go through the entire level over and over until you find all the secrets. I don't mind re-doing the levels all that much except that every cut scene, or piece of dialogue, re-plays. Yes, you can right click to skip but it really doesn't give you an option to skip all dialogue if you've been through it already. It would be nice if you could choose to bypass all dialogue that you've heard already and just search the levels for the junk, er... I mean treasure..., that you missed. I almost feel like I need to look at a walkthrough instead of playing the game just to avoid going through things repeatedly, in fact I did that for one of the levels because on the 4th time through I had still missed something and didn't want to continue wasting time on enemies that couldn't defeat me even if I played 1 card per turn.....

The speed up function is great, I'm happy they added it but it makes the animation where you're just standing still and moving a bit look too fast. It's too bad it doesn't just speed up combat and movement instead of making your bots look like they're hyperventilating.

Edit: I just did a fairly long level twice and I'm somehow still missing one treasure. I really don't want to miss anything, but at the same time I'm not very interested in going through the level a third time and clicking through all the dialogue again. It really is the little things that make a game great - or not-so-great. Please, please allow us to completely skip all dialogue, as in with a check box at the beginning so just have to search and fight instead of the constant esc key or right clicking to bypass *SOME* of the dialogue, when going back through a level. Yes, esc or right click doesn't even skip it all... sometimes the option doesn't even come up.... I like the gameplay, but I'm so annoyed because I don't want to keep re-playing the levels.

Yes I totally agree with you. Probably the biggest failing in the game. There are parts of the game, where you can stumble upon a chapter-ending (non-retreatable) boss fight, with several rooms still unexplored. I actually choose to skip those rooms, rather than restart the chapter animations.

Funny, "SteamWorld Heist" has a great system for revisiting levels for items and experience: randomized rooms, easy change of characters, and many opportunities to "fast forward" through animations by right-clicking.

Absolutely. Just played a couple levels where I found everything or there was nothing to find and I didn't feel annoyed in the least. I dread the next time I don't get 100% of the secrets.

I agree with everything that Macdallan and Tuxdelux have mentioned. Hidden levels are fine, but redoing a level is painful.
I should also mention that Level 1 was my where I have been unable to find the hidden level or treasure (I am at 67%). A "Hidden Level" Guide would be good for this game. Obviously, I am not the person to create it. :)

. . . just finished a level TWICE and got only 56% both times. I have no idea what I'm missing but it's clearly a lot. Getting tired of re-doing the same fights that I can't possibly lose, and skipping the same dialogue repeatedly. Such an annoying game mechanic in an otherwise decent game. With this and the fact that you can only use 3 heroes at a time I can't say this game's much above a 7/10 when it would otherwise be a solid 9.
