D1 Complete changed almost nothing from the PSP version. It's got new graphics and some QoL features like more fast forwarding options, but otherwise it's the exact same game.
At first I thought they added new monsters to the game, but it turns out all they did was replace the older ones that you don't see in the newer games with sprites of monsters that were never in D1.
Galactic Demons were replaced by Bacials, Treants were replaced by Eryngi. Just some examples. They function pretty much the same.
The only new characters were Asagi and the Prism Rangers as hero units.
If you ask me, the replacement of monsters seemed like they were just being lazy. I don't know why else you would replace unique creatures that no longer appear in later installments with new ones that you can still see in most of the newer games now. I can't see it as being more than a bad retcon that shrank the universe of disgaea by removing characters.
Anyways, if you want to play Disgaea 1 again, it might be the better version just because of the added cutscene skip feature. Otherwise you're in for pretty much the same ride as the DS/PSP versions, and thus the PC version as well.
It's nice that they didn't just do graphic updates but added some QoL changes as well. I thought they would just drop support after the game release. Still, kinda lazy of them to just reuse sprites instead of making new ones for stuff that doesn't have hd sprites yet.
