Is Disgaea 1 Complete even worth it?
I've played the DS Version but, I don't even know what's so different or what has changed so much. Can anyone tell me?

No. Disgaea 1 is outdated. I loved the game and still do out of nostalgia, but in 2019 I can't recommend it. If it was updated with mechanics maybe, but it's pretty much just cosmetic updates.

Seriously? It's not even fixable? I've seen so many people play it.

What do you mean fixable?

D1 Complete changed almost nothing from the PSP version. It's got new graphics and some QoL features like more fast forwarding options, but otherwise it's the exact same game.

At first I thought they added new monsters to the game, but it turns out all they did was replace the older ones that you don't see in the newer games with sprites of monsters that were never in D1.

Galactic Demons were replaced by Bacials, Treants were replaced by Eryngi. Just some examples. They function pretty much the same.

The only new characters were Asagi and the Prism Rangers as hero units.

If you ask me, the replacement of monsters seemed like they were just being lazy. I don't know why else you would replace unique creatures that no longer appear in later installments with new ones that you can still see in most of the newer games now. I can't see it as being more than a bad retcon that shrank the universe of disgaea by removing characters.

Anyways, if you want to play Disgaea 1 again, it might be the better version just because of the added cutscene skip feature. Otherwise you're in for pretty much the same ride as the DS/PSP versions, and thus the PC version as well.

It's not worth it if you have already played Disgaea 1, but it's fine if you're a newcomer.

It's nice that they didn't just do graphic updates but added some QoL changes as well. I thought they would just drop support after the game release. Still, kinda lazy of them to just reuse sprites instead of making new ones for stuff that doesn't have hd sprites yet.

Disgaea 1 Complete has some mechanical updates, but the main thing is being a visual update. The IMO best part of this, is how it makes Majins look good, which is something that Disgaea 2 and 3 failed horribly at.
Also Disgaea 1 on the DS was a really bad port, how could you finish it on that platform

It really wasn't hard.

I don't even recommend d1 to new comers anymore. Even if it's the most "modern" iteration, d1 is cripplingly outdated. If you must play it, do the psp version and save state sum your way through it.
