dis6 becomes challenging and every class has a purpose no added filler classes that are there just to exist. i've been playing since JP release and it's faaaaaaar more engaging and meaningful than Disgaea 5 imo.
but stats go up to quintillions now.
Exactly. In all the years I've been playing the games, I never truly got to the goal in any of the games. I always ran out of steam long before I was min-maxed. But the journey on the way there was what kept me coming back and made me want to play each game that came out multiple times.
I might even start playing 5 again (for the third time).
I am just sickened with 6. It's a godawful game.
Disgaea 6 removed so many classes, and monsters, granted only a select few such as myself went ahead and made every single class, and character....
They also removed systems such as the "Character World", which was almost as addicting as the item world grinds.
I've only just started Disgaea 6, but can already tell it's the worst in the entire series.
I get that they wanted to try something new with the 3D sprites, and animations, but if it means dumbing it down as much as they have now.... I'd honestly prefer the 2D Sprites/gameplay.
Even the story thus far in D6 is pretty trash compared to the others, and I know Disgaea games don't try to be too serious, but this is probably THE WORST game they've made.
It hurts going from like 25+ classes/monsters, to 11.... Not to mention in order to get the main heroes from before, like Laharl, Killia, etc, etc, you need to pay an extra $40+. Absolute SLAP IN THE FACE!
I played it for about 2 hours before deciding to buy D5 on PC (own it on PS4 and Switch, and now, I guess, on PC as well) and start yet another playthrough.
TBH, dude, if I had never played a Disgaea game before (I've played them all) and you gave me D6. Then you gave me D5 and told me that D5 is actually D7, I would believe you.
Because D5 actually feels like the newer, better-looking, more feature-rich game.....and that's because IT IS!
For lack of a delicate way of putting it, the appeal of NIS games (in particular Disgaea) was for people with OCD and lots of time on their hands. There's a reason why a good deal of content for Disgaea 1 and 2 on YouTube are from people like ulillillia.
They are trying to make the game more appealing to outsiders and they are going about it in the worst possible way. Instead of figuring out how to make the game easier to get into for new players and preserving the core experience, they are trying to modify the core experience itself. Which always ends the same way: your old fans start leaving and the game doesn't end up much more appealing to newcomers. I really hope this is one a one-off experiment and that they will learn from their mistakes.
Perfectly put. I only read this comment after I wrote my own but this describes what I meant perfectly. They are forgetting what made them popular and are losing connection to their core fans. I have yet to see a situation where that has not resulted in a death of a franchise, or the company taking a huge financial L.
Not to mention it was a phone game that almost bankrupted them in the first place lol
Disgaea 1, 2 and Phantom Brave were all crash fiestas for months after launch until several patches. Even now if I try to play Phantom Brave there's a chance the game will crash 20 floors in on a 100-floor dungeon with no auto-save.
Y's VIII was a buggy mess to the point where it required enough of an update to almost call the patch an entirely different game. The level of quality where the CEO of the company would hold a press release where they bow deeply to the camera.
Disgaea 5 they accidentally released the full PC version for a demo and then delayed the game for over half a year while people who pirated it played it for free (good job).
Also between the time of Disgaea 5's original launch date and when it actually launched, Disgaea 1 "Complete" came out which was pretty much just a remaster of a 16 year old game with a $50 price tag, and Labyrinth of Refrain which was hyped up like crazy and then hit the floor with a resounding "thud".
