The only positive responses to it I've seen are from the type of people whom NISA could sell swampland with ease.
D1C is very lazily made, everything about it is lazy.
- Recycling modern versions of sprites instead of redesigning them to look like the originals (Succubus, for example...and while I haven't checked, Skulls too, probably. Male healers as seen in that screenshot.)
- Several classes have been removed in favour of more modern counterparts (Galactic Demons with Rifle Demons for example)
- they are using the original Voice Acting recordings, which are notably low quality.
- They are using the original conversation busts, which have a drastically different art style to the sprites
- unconfirmed, but they have still failed to show any QoL improvements. We've seen the options menu and it lacks one of the more basic QoL improvements, that being increasing movement and attack speed.
- unconfirmed AFAIK, but they don't appear to have upgraded movement or throwing, meaning it is still D1, not DD2/D5's significantly superior control philosophy.
I could go on, but I think that's suddicient.
Perhaps if it's on sale in the distant future I'll consider it. Perhaps. But it's the laziest piece of ♥♥♥♥ that NIS has offered us to date, and that says a lot.
They had the potential to do a complete overhaul of D1, to create a truly definitive, modern, updated version. But they didn't. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even add Killia or other characters from D3+ (which weren't in the PSP version) as recruitable characters.
Movement become instant with effect off (no movement speed option as my screenshot shows).
Effect off attack animations are the same as PSP version.
Everything is just the same as the PSP. Throwing, item world, menus, character sorting, status screen, Dark Assembly rank etc.
Just like the original, no jumping, no tower attack
Basically it's a lazily made HD remaster
And wait, no voice options? Oh jeez, it's getting worse.
It's actually remarkable that they think they can get away with releasing a very minor update to the PSP version only a couple of years after doing that ALREADY with Disgaea PC (which honestly I will take over D1Complete).
I'm beginning to wonder if they wanted D5C delayed to autumn so that they had at least ONE successful product in that period.
I understand that NIS has been struggling, or at leat the D5 did not do as well as they had hoped. I feel that the implimentation of this remake is a major mistep, as D1C is going to be a tough sell. I would hope that if it does not perform well, that NIS does not just throw in the towel on thier "Disgaeaverse" SRPGS.
Based on quotes from NISA reps on various forums, that's not actually true. Disgaea 5 sold very well - especially when the Switch version (however much I think that console shouldn't exist) is factored in. (having over 150K more sold than D4)
What doomsday? It's more than enough to get the sprites up to Disgaea 4 quality.
It's because when Kuugen said that Disgaea 1 Complete was just gonna be a graphics update/remaster people got all frumpy and "no it's gonna be a full update with all the QoL changes. Don't be stupid."
No skip during cutscenes. (there is a fast forward button tho)
Cutscenes and voice are mostly based on PS2 version. (as of JP version)
Next episode previews are also PS2 version.
Healing doesn't gain EXP as it was in the original (not sure if it is RES based)
UI is completely redone based on the original style (Unlike PC version)
Although the game uses PC version's 3D maps.
Bug?: Female thief appear to be male in the record viewer (as it was male in the original)
Game has english voice option btw. Can't test it since I ain't buying that at full price 7776 Yen.
Funny thing, actually, Last night I had a dream where we were all proven wrong by seeing a class roster, with even "returning" D5 classes being remade to look more D1-ish.
Shame it was just a dream. :P
As long as the QoL changes aren't just features lazily tacked on from the later games. I want D1 to maintain its own identity.
I own 3 copies of Disgaea 1 (PS2, PSP, PC). I bought them because of the gameplay and story. I aint buying another copy just because the graphics are better. If I was a graphics ♥♥♥♥♥, I probably wouldn't have loved Disgaea in the first place.
