Disgaea 5 has plenty of ways to grind even without Money Maps, particularly late-game. Things like Martial Training 5, the Asagi level using Pram, Metallia, and Salvatore together, the Unopened Soda Trick, or just using the farm to get stacks of Statisticians/Brokers/Managers.
This is not to mention subclass levelling, which is immensely easy to do by exploiting Raspberyl's evility Trash Pickup, or Valvatorez' ability Prinny Instructor and the Prinny Squad.
But believe me the game offers everything that money maps have to turn grinding that easy, the main thing with map editor i think its play the others peoples custom maps and make yours.
Definitely not. As I said, there's plenty of grind-easing stuff in the game itself, most notably the Cheat Shop, which allows you to reallocate your gains (i.e setting yourself to 0% Mana/Money gain and 300% Exp). By the time you complete the Land of Carnage story, you can have 500% gains on any one stat if you so choose.
Aside from this it is the absolute fastest method of weapon/skill leveling. nothing comes even close to being as fast since you could control what geo panels were there such as stacking +1 attack and always counter along with +1 counter. This gives you 5 total attacks and an extra 4 counters (That triggered PER ATTACK) letting you take a weapon from level 1 to 100 in 1 turn.
It was also extremely good for mass subclass leveling, while digihuman is right there are other methods (Geoblast, trash pickup ect) they made you do it 1 character at a time (5 if you magichange 4 monsters onto them) but money maps let you very quickly max out as many characters as you wanted for a fraction of the time investment.
Thats for money maps anyway, Custom maps as a whole is also important because it added a much needed challenge for endgame players. Once you start really maxing out the hardest fight in the game is 20 star LoC baal, which even if you only have stats in the 40 million mark a proper set up with the right evilties will still let you clear that fight in 1 turn. Some custom maps on the ps4 however were extremely tough and challenging even if you had 40 characters with completely maxed stats because of the geo panel effects. This drasticly increased the longevity of the game and added ALOT to the value of the game.
I personally always stick my units in the bottom left corner of 2-1 when I couldn't connect to online (I have it on the switch and am constantly leaving for errands). Only major difference is that it might take a couple of turns.
