just installed windows-7-update-kb4457144 and updated to the latest nvidia driver (im on gtx-960)... same error.

This patch fixed it for me : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2670838/platform-update-for-windows-7-sp1-and-windows-server-2008-r2-sp1
If it works for you and your next error is a quick black screen and the game closing right after launching it, try installing windows-7-update-kb4457144.
After those 2 patches, I managed to play the game.

Thank you guys! i found my fix here, https://steamcommunity.com/app/803600/discussions/3/3397295779079910035/?ctp=4 , specifically the update KB2670838. (prior to that i also updated to kb4457144 and my graphics card to latest so maybe they're all required?).. But seriously, for a 2d game, this is a major pain in the hass.

ah i see my resultion lower than that, there also no setting to change the game resolution thats why im getting this error.
