Which items ?
Which items do you give your characters ?

For most classes, it is also clear what items and weapons you used.

But which accessories do you give which class ?

Do you give your character only Exodus ? Or would you prefer items that increase a certain value such for example INT stronger ?

To be honest they don't really matter much.

Until late-game, anyway. Then it's level 500 maxed-out Carnage Trapezohedrons for everyone! Can't knock the huge buff to stats 3 of them gives.

As for weapons, I typically favour Fists and Swords over all else. Thankfully since we can now change the appearance of items, that means I can turn my Yoshitsunas and stuff into Prinny Swords. xD

But during the main game, I only really care about the equips on my casters, in which case I focus on Orbs and Emblems to buff their SP and INT.

Yeah, in the later Disgaea games, armour becomes less useful. Boosts to skills can increase the damage to the point that defense/res are more afterthoughts than anything. So boosting attack is usually the best, and weapons are much better at that than armour/etc equipment. Stuffing specialists into the non-weapon equipment is the way to go, and the armour/etc becomes moot. It's only the late game stuff that's really useful, like the Trapezohedron as mentioned above.

For weapons, I prefer Fists, Swords, and Staves.

For the main story of the first playthrough, getting Emblems is usually nice, especially if they're legendary or rare. They're somewhat useful for all classes, and I choose the character that gets it based on the specialists on the emblem, and of course prioritizing my preferred characters.

I've always liked Shoe type items, but they're less special now that you can pass bills in items to up their Movement if you really want to.

It seems to me that this entry is stronger in field effects but the weakest in the series as far as positioning goes. Weapon skills move you around the field rarely, and even fists now have low level ranged attacks. I'm not saying I dislike it whole-cloth. However, as other people have said the distinction between weapons has become greyed. Main differences are stat-based, and which stats are used to effect damage.

With all that in mind I like to stick to my habits of having a healer with a bow, a small prinny squad, about 3 varied other monsters, a warrior with a sword, a mage (I switch from male to female game to game) with staff, a thief with a gun, and then whatever I think most fits the main characters best.

As far as accessories it really just depends what statistics make the most sense for party role. Give everyone with moderately high use an imperial seal-type item so that they're well rounded and last more than a floor. In this item world you get them practically as much as pixie dusts or hands. Other than that the stats don't lie. The ideal for me is to hit a fine line between being so anal retentive about a few points in a stat that your playtime is over 1000 hours because you need it perfect, and being a normy who plays for 8 hours with a roster of 10 just the story buying from the shop as they go.
