Each subsequent star takes 4 times more class exp to get than the previous one, except the last which takes 16 times more.
The amount needed also depends from the class. The default classes are the easiest to raise, and endgame classes like Sage, Pirate and Dark Knight are harder to raise.
Always give a subclass to unique characters, as they have no class to raise by default. For generics, focus a bit more on their own class, as they automatically rank up with their class mastery. Otherwise, it's better to spread class mastery between multiple classes than purely focus on one. Pick subclasses depending on the role of the character (melee classes for melee characters, etc.).
Each star unlocks an evility at the skill shop and boosts base stats (and thus future stat gains upon leveling up) depending on the class and tier. The Prinny subclass gives much more base stats than any other class.
"Mastering" means all star filled and the word "MASTER" in all caps over them. the fastest possible to reach master in a class is around level 100. but it takes quite a lot of preparation and knowledge to do.
The default class of a generic character (one you actively recruit/buy) is always the same as what classe you chose when creating him/her. A warrior will always be defaulted to warrior when created. you can change their class in the assembly.
A Story CHaracter (such as Killia or Seraphina) have NO default classe set. you need to set it yourself
The class growth rate is affected by 2 thing : the type of class and what growth rank you gave him.
Incompetent are much much slower to rank up.
Genius are much much faster to rank up.
Some classes grow faster than other. The easiest way to grow is by killing a lot of enemies. it doesnt change much if the killing blow is made from a combo or tower or team attck. as long as the one you want to grow was part of the very last thing that got the kill. if combo, he need to land the killing blow. if tower or team attack, he just need to be part of it, he could miss and still gain the exp. no worries.
Once you unlock the cheat shop it become much easier to grow. some squad allow for faster growth when some character/evility are mixed in the squad.
btw, male fighter are the fastest to rank up while sage is one of the slowest.
you get the 2nd "main" evility slot much later, about the same time you start grinding for real and/or use the chara world board.
The purpose for chara board is to incread evility slots correct?
Chara world is there to increase everything about the character (evility slots, movement, aptitudes, pass on known skill of evility, etc...)
You needn't focus on chara world until you're post-game and upgrading sages+mains. It's for increasing aptitudes mostly, as you'll do evility slots faster.
The only issue with reincarnation is you start back to level 1, but it should be easy to level up.
