So. Nippon Ichi Software's last PC game.
Should I really be surprised that the same company that made ClaDun X2 is giving up on PC gaming moving on from this game?

Yes, the same Cladun X2 that is the reason why PC gamers are expected to like Octopath Traveler and FFVIII if they want more Square-Enix games on PC, why Atlus and Sandlot have abandoned the PC platform over one failed game, and generally why the Japanese PC Scene will always be a series of glorified petitions until the end of time.

If Atlus didn't want Catherine to fail.... why did they release the older version of it instead?

Dunno. I just know that people shouldn't act so surprised when the company that irreversibly destroyed the Japanese PC scene neglected to bring the Disgaea 4 remake to PC.

I just want NIS to apologize for the damage they have done

As for Atlus specifically, I think i've known for the longest time that they'll do something that's just as dumb as NIS releasing ClaDun X2 on PC. I think it's also NIS' fault for why they did so, because the Japanese PC scene would've looked a lot less crappier if NIS chose to release Disgaea back in 2012 instead of 2016. But they didn't. And because they didn't, Catherine Classic was the Persona 5 PC petition.

The worst part of NIS' single-handed destruction of the Japanese PC scene is that the consumer thinks that Japan no longer hates PC gaming.

Ever since ClaDun X2 failed back in 2012, the Japanese PC scene has been a pretty dumb game of having to appease Japanese developers. Fans of Arc System Works fighters when they released the first BlazBlue on Steam clamored around the game and said ♥♥♥♥ like "Buy this so the good ones can be on Steam", despite the consoles being 3 games ahead at the time and the Steam version had no online multiplayer. And it was a fighting game.

A much more recent example is Atlus' PC debut: They expected PC gamers to like a version of Catherine that was objectively inferior to what the PS4 would get if they wanted to get a Persona game. My point is that Nippon Ichi Software's actions have created this chain of events that has ended with the Japanese PC scene being a case of "Buy this game you really don't give two $#!+s about because it's from the creators of a game you'd rather have!" Between Japanese developers having unrealistic expectations of what their fans like and console fans demanding the failure of a Japanese developer's most immediate PC release, I don't think we will ever move past the need to buy games we don't like just to ask for games that we do like.

And i find it amazing that in spite of what has spawned from NIS' handling of the PC platform, people are still surprised that they abandoned ship a second time.

That's disappointing. I want to see Lapis x Labyrinth on PC.

Proof this is the last PC game?

NIS has other games besides Disgaea. If they still gave a ♥♥♥♥ about PC gaming, they would've announced ports for Lapis X Labyrinth or Destiny Connect port by now

As i have said before, this is the company that set the trend for Japanese developers having unrealistic expectations from PC gamers.

Again, proof?

We got this game after the fact.

D5 on PC was developed alongside a Nintendo Switch port. D5's original PS4 version was made when NIS gave up on PC gaming the first time.

And again. We are talking about the same company that is the reason why Japanese developers have unrealistic expectations from PC gamers

@Aya Shameimaru You are not helping anything by bashing NIS, and I think you know that. The fact that we even have Disgaea 1, 2 and 5 on PC is literally a freaking miracle, and the Devs should be praised for bringing them to us not bashed over what if scenarios and Maybe's etc. Whiny rants about what you think we deserve and dont deserve is not going to solve the problems that Japanese Devs currently face when bringing Japanese games to the PC. It is not so easy to do everything you want or expect, especially for a Niche product company who make games for an admittedly niche group of gamers. I dont know anyone (ANYONE) who plays Disgaea games like some of us do because most people dont have the time to invest in these types of games, so they are notoriously poor sellers when compared to the FPS, Adventure, platformers etc and their closest competition is other RPG games that don't take near as much time to get into.

Personally I am thanking my lucky stars that I have three awesome Disgaea games on PC and NIS I SALUTE YOU for this. It has been an honor playing your games since the days of the PS2. Dont let people like Aya Shameimaru dampen your spirits.

@Draconius a western developer would think that it's insanity to expect a fan of fantastical RPGs to like a modern military aerial combat game. A Japanese developer would agree but only under the condition that the consumer is playing on consoles.

If the consumer is on PC, it's a case of "this is our newest game. You will like it, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and to hell with your preferences". That is the product of NIS' handling of the PC platform.

@Aya, no one made a rule that states "If you make SRPG's you must always make SRPG's, and nothing else."

GET OVER YOURSELF... companies are entitled to develop whatever game they want to, to test new waters and get recognition for something other than what they are best known for. Whether you like what they release or not.

The power is in your hand as the consumer, if you don't like it don't buy it. Let the devs know you don't like what they are putting out by simply not buying it. Trust me they are intelligent enough to see that what they are selling is not selling etc.

Actually, I am saying that "same developers" is the only thing one game needs to have with another in order to decide if a Japanese game is to ever release on Steam. There are rumors of a second season pass for SoulCalibur VI and another for a collection of Ace Combat games originating from the Playstation 2. If PC gamers want either, then they have to either buy both Code Vein and Tales of Arise or accept that ToA will be the developers' last PC game. It has been this way since 2013 and the only difference between then and now is that we have convinced ourselves that this is not the case

If a Japanese developer's most immediate PC game is to fail, then their first reaction is to stay on consoles. Doesn't matter if the game in question is completely unrelated to other franchises within their development pipeline

... so we should be thankful for NIS to selling us games that are literally just sloppy ports that crash like mad? I'm not sure if it's Stockholm Syndrome or plain masochism.
If you think we should be thankful/grateful for the opportunity to buy a half-assed port, you've got things backwards. Any company that produces any product and does a job as lazily as NIS ports games is going to go bankrupt. That's how capitalism works.
They want our money? Then they'd better earn it.

tbh, NIS will stick with the mobile market most likely. They (probably) make decent money leasing out character rights to generic phone games, at least when you think in terms of cost/benefit. Makai Wars is pretty much just a clone of those trashy mobile games except having Disgaea characters in it base instead of as a "special collaboration". I really wouldn't be surprised if NIS goes to a purely mobile model and the company slowly collapses.
