General FAQS

What are the game modes?
Per Aspera has two modes: a campaign mode featuring a fully-voiced story and then a sandbox mode with open-ended gameplay for unbridled creativity and experimentation.

How accurate is the topology of Mars in the game?
We sample 8k heightmaps which are processed remotely by NASA giving us a resolution of 2.56 Km2 per pixel.

Does Per Aspera have multiple save slots?
Yes! This means you can play through the game making different choices and not lose progress. This will be particularly useful if you want to explore the impact of different strategies and responses that will affect the outcome of your mission.

What resolution does the game play at?
The game is designed natively for 4K resolution where it will look its best, and it scales down to 1920x1080. There will be support for ultrawide displays at launch.

What languages is Per Aspera available in?
The English version has full audio support from the voice cast, and subtitles are available for the following languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese.

Will the game’s music be streamed or sold?
We are selling the OST on Steam as a DLC or as part of the Deluxe Edition.

What other planets can we colonize?
There are currently no plans to add additional planets or galaxies. Our game is about terraforming Mars and transforming humanity into a multi-planetary species by building their second home.

Will there be mods?
We announced in April 2021 that we are working on including mod support. Read more about our future updates in our roadmap!

Why are the minimum computer specifications so high?
In the later stages of the game, you'll be managing thousands of buildings and hundreds of workers. Simulating an entire planet and processing the pathfinding for so many units - all at the same time - can be very resource intensive. That's why our recommended specifications are what they are. We are continuously working on performance improvements. We have several in the development pipeline that everyone will benefit from.

Game FAQs

Some of these questions and answers may be considered early story spoilers! We've put them behind spoiler tags appropriately.

How do I cancel special projects?
Some special projects, like the colonist mission, continue automatically until you stop them. You can cancel the project by selecting the red X in the Orbital View. You cannot halt a colonize mission that is currently en-route, though. They're already travelling as fast as they can to their destination!

How do I start new special projects?
To start new special projects, you'll need a Spaceport or Space Elevator to become available! You can increase the maximum number of Spaceports you can build by researching the Space Technology tree. Once you have an available Spaceport or Space Elevator, you'll be able to select a special project for it to work on in the Orbital View.

Why can't a build a mine on a new landing site?
New landing sites come equipped with enough resources to build tier 1 mines. If you've researched improved mines, please make sure you're selecting tier 1 in the building menu by looking under the widget and select the appropriate level.

Why aren't more colonists moving into Mars?
There are two things you need in order to increase the maximum amount of allowed colonists: BioTech research and housing. You can increase the total number of colonists allowed by researching the bottom row of the Biotech tree. For example, Biotech 1 increases the colonist limit by an addition 750 people. You can research your housing by building more research outposts or colonies

How do I move assault drones? (Early story spoiler!)
Try selecting the drones directly by clicking the blue hexagon. You'll automatically open up the combat lens as well display en route movement. You can then click to select a new place to "station" your assault drones. This is how you can designate attack targets as well. You can see some of this in action in our combat video.

How do I split assault drones? (Early story spoiler!)
To split your assault drone stacks, you can hold shift and then hold left click on a destination and then drag your mouse for more or less.

I need to investigate a specific place on Mars. How do I find it?
Zooming out and look for a green icon -- it should be marking your current objectives. If you're curious about which sector is which, zoom out into the Orbital View to find their names.

Why isn't my building powered?
Try reviewing the range of your solar farms by opening up the power lens with F2. That should show you where your power buildings are servicing with clear yellow visuals. Additionally, power efficiency can be impacted by a number of things: dust storms or maintenance issues, just to name a few.

How do I connect hyperloops?
The hyperloops have a connection limit -- try selecting a hyperloop to build and hovering near one of your built hyperloops. You should see a blue line. That means they're within range! You can play around with that to see how far roughly they can go.

How do I build more Spaceports?
To build more spaceports, continue researching the bottom row of the Space technology tree.

Why isn't my mine working?
There are several reasons why a mine might be rendered inoperable. Resource veins can eventually run out, so check the input of your resources by selecting the mine. When a resource has been depleted, it'll be time to decommission your mine. Your mine may also be full -- check the output to see. This means that you need a worker to swing by and clear the output queue.

Hello! Will it ever be available to mac?
I'm absolutely buying the Peronist Space Program cosmetic DLC.

Because that's coming, right?

Thank you for selling the soundtrack alongside this game!

Hey Devs, thanks for the great game. When you get a new area and land a ship there, I wish that when you hover over that new landing zone, you only see the resources your buildings there have. I'm sure this is mitigated by technology, but it would be nice for new base building if you could only see the resources you have at that location to use. I had to trial and error building a new base because the new resources were not explained to me at the bottom of the screen. Thanks!

There are currently no plans for a Mac build. Sorry!

I mean, have you heard the OST?! It would be a crime to not offer it in my opinion. I've heard these songs for hours and I still love them.

Thanks for adding OST. I wish every game added OST here on steam and elsewhere along with Spotify.

Also lossless would be excellent as well.

They've stated that they don't support Per Aspera on Win7, but people have said they've gotten the demo to work on Win7. I've not heard confirmation that the retail release works on Win7.

And asking will usually get you (us) belittled by fans for not having upgraded and joined the 95% that use Win10. I'm guessing they don't play many older games that don't run on Win10.
