Modified JM3 vs Falkirk BR?
Got the gun upgrading skill, and initially I made a pristine Lee No.4 since it had "excellent damage", but I was disappointed in the RoF & reloading, sure good for 1-hitting squishies, but anything tankier and it felt cumbersome.
Thinking about the Falkirk Battle Rifle and if I should bother making a pristine one of that, but I found a modified JM3 bullpup in a cave which says it also does high damage, wondering if anyone knows if the vague item descriptions are identical meaning the modified JM3 is just as good as the pristine BR? One says sniper, other assault rifle, is there an actual difference since both use rifle ammo?

I think the Lee is meant for sniping humans, prolly not dealing with faster paced combat with like bots or ferals or groups of enemies. Maybe as an opener, but as a bolt action rifle, its not good for faster combat.

I would personally go with the Bullpup, since it has a nice scope, but thats just me. I would also consider having one decent ranged weapon for high damage kills, like a sniper, and considering ammo is moderately scarce, using a rifle for both fully suto and single shot would be a burden on that ammo type.

Consider using a SMG for that and the Lee as a sniper Both SMG end up with High Damage rating as well, so they should be good for most enemies.

From some limited testing when I was doing some late game experimentation on playing through different endings, I didn't realize but there's actually a pristine upgrade for the regular JM-3 with "very high dmg".... Only for it to seemingly take longer/more shots (not counting headshots on unarmored humans) to down enemies than the pristine Falkirk BR with its "high dmg" stat, so I do believe the classification of the Falkirk as a sniper (while jm3 is referred as an AR) does mean it either deals more damage or maybe it has some other property like no damage falloff with range or some penetration or weakpoint bonus or something.

I wish the lee4 would have a proper scope.

Hi Nathan,

I just answered someone earlier about the JM-3

You can find a pre-upgraded (MODIFIED JM-3) in the cave that you've been to. However, since you find this one Modified (pre-upgraded) it lands in between a Stock JM-3 and a Pristine JM-3 when it comes to damage.

The Modified JM-3 does High Damage where the Pristine JM-3 does Very High Damage, you just have to upgrade one from Rusty > Stock > Pristine. Whereas the Modified JM-3 will always have the stats that it comes with.

That's ONE of the big things I wish this game had, precise damage numbers.

What are the damage numbers between:
  • Low
  • Medium
  • High
  • Very High
  • Excellent

It's accuracy. Sniper rifle will hit wherever you've got the crosshairs even at long range; pistol on the other hand deviates. I *think* there's also a damage drop off over range which all rifles are less affected by based on experimenting with the LMG. It's certainly the case of short to mid range, long range is a bit more complicated since said accuracy deviation makes it difficult to determine if you're actually hitting the same area on the target.
