Speaking cave offering?

I have the offering for the speaking cave, I get to what looks like the main alter but no way to use it. I tried dropping the offering but it does nothing.

It's not in the little blue cave at the top of the staircase...you gotta drop the offering in a bowl on the floor in front of the big wicker man effigy standing between the steps leading to the little blue cave. You will get a keyboard prompt when you're hovering over the correct bowl.
