Try tuning the difficulties to your liking.
Loot containers stay open but they say "(Empty)" once you've looted everything from one, so you should be able to look at that and tell.
You can upgrade weapons twice. Once from Rusty to Stock, and then again from Stock to Pristine. At Pristine, a headshot basically takes anything out except the Infected.
You can absolutely hit people while they are flinching, that seems like a skill thing for you.
No fast travel system but you can use the Interchange as a means of fast travel. It gives you a shortcut to every zone.
There's also other examples of zone shortcuts like the Sewer System or the Salt Mines.
The limited inventory is either your cup of tea or not. I like that I have to make meaningful choices about what i'm carrying and can't just have everything. Makes the game harder.
I think influencers did this game a disservice making it seem like some high budget, super open world game like Fallout, when it really isn't.
It's a very small game with good writing and a pretty railed experience. Take it for what it is and you'll enjoy it.
What? What is this even trying to say? If you loot a container and empty it, it says (Empty).
