Is it safe to store things in random containers?

As many people have complained about, inventory space is very limited. What I'd like to know is if it's safe to store excess stuff in the random crates, backpacks, and corpses you find when exploring or if items will reset/disappear eventually if left in them.

there are safe storage that you can put your things in almost look like a vending machine just keep exploring you come across them.

Use the tube system for long term storage, that's what it's for.

But from what I could tell at least some things you drop dont disappear, at least when entering and exiting bunkers within an area. Don't know what happens when you go to another main area. I didn't test it long term
