PLEASE DEVS there NEEDS to be the ability to block and dodge added to the game.
So I think the game is pretty good, I have been enjoying it. It looks nice visually, is very well optimized and runs extremely well. But with the way combat is, especially melee combat, how are you supposed to avoid attacks? There's no ability to block or dodge attacks at all. But I feel like with the way combat is you basically just have to wail on whatever enemy you're fighting with a melee weapon to take them out before they kill you first.

I really hope the developers see this, and if you guys do, please these mechanics need to be added immediately, I don't suppose it would be too difficult to implement now would it? At least a block, but a dodge/dash would be nice as well. Heavy attack is able to be performed by pressing the right bumper, or holding the right trigger, you could easily take it off of right bumper and add a block or dodge to that input instead. Other than this one major glaring issue I do really like the game, but I feel not having these mechanics in the game when there is a big emphasis on melee combat and conserving ammo is very detrimental and it feels like a massive oversight that nobody thought to add these during development. I feel like this will turn off a lot of people from the game if this doesn't change so please do something about this issue. Thank you.

Yeah exactly lol, Like I really want to like the the game more, I have been enjoying it a good bit, but just having to flail your stick wildly until the other guy dies while trying to stun lock them so they can't hit you back doesn't feel the greatest. Especially when playing on the games recommended difficulty where you can die in 1-2 heavy attacks from enemies, or basically almost 1 hit from the ferals.

You have kick to stagger enemies. It's like having an ultimate. Stop crying, kids.
When you see them wind up for a big attack you've got ample time to simply step back. Or sideways. Or hoof them in the nutsack. Pretty much any of those three will work.
good timing is all. the combat is kill or be killed. got to be smart. weapons can be thrown. you can jump back , it helps. Tea is good to have , decrease heart rate. plus once you start to perk up with perks , things get better.

I found melee combat pretty smooth, Kick stun works pretty well.
Came here to say the same thing. I’m 20 mins in loving it but just now realized there is no ability to block.

No hate to the devs but how can you have a skill tree focused on melee combat with no ability to BLOCK.
Please fix this. Other than that I love it so far.

I finished the game on intense difficulty without it and honestly the fights aren't always necessary 😉
Enemy hits don't lunge so if you backpedaling as they strike then you aren't getting hit. Also, take the kick skill for longer stun duration if you want more time to beat on enemies. The game has growing pains but it's not something that is hard to get used to.
Bro's acting like they'd be able to block a guy swinging an axe at them IRL xD

They're also locked in as soon as they start a wind up or combo, so simply sidestepping will see them miss. Really though it's all about the boot of doom - I don't think anything attacks faster than the kick, and it'll stop them dead in their tracks whatever they were doing.

You've all made a fair point, I probably shouldn't have made the post when I had been drinking, I think the game just got on my nerves one night a bit while while I was playing lol. However, I do think there should still be an ability to block attacks, I feel like that would at least be a reasonable thing to try to do in a fight for your life.

This isn't a souls game, and being able to kick enemies makes dodging and blocking redundant, though I agree, if they make atomfall 2, they should take melee gameplay from Dying Light, which is the best fps melee system imo
To paraphrase the great band Devo, OP: When a baddie comes along, you must kick him. And if he still is standing strong, you must kick him.
Now kick him.
Kick him real good.

oh god... Darktide is literally right there for devs to copy and steal from, dodges blocks perfect blocks counters. And gun combat thats fun and kinetic. And folk are still making FPS games with no defensive mechanics? Bonkers. well thats put me off buying.
