UNIst.exe starts Spacewar?!
I just downloaded the game after update and now, if i start the game from .exe in local folder, it starts Spacewar instead.
Starting the game from steam list doesn't trigger any space wars. But in the game i experience sound bug: after start of a music track, sound cuts out for 2 seconds (SFX works fine).
And quality of sound is very low. Also i can't mute game's sound via sound panel in windows (doesn't appear with other apps)

What to do?

Hello, sorry for the necro but here’s a fix for the Spacewar problem:
Right click the game in your library, hover over manage, click on browse local files, find a text file named “steam_appid.txt”, open it, replace the “480” with “801630”, save, problem fixed.

Normally comes up when playing cracked games illegally downloaded online. Not saying that's what you have done but crackers normally use that game as a framework to run cracked games online.

Yes, i'm aware of this. That's why i'm so surprised to find it in fresh installed totally legal game
Reinstalling uni cleared sound bugs. However, spacewar is still here. Forgot to add, steam offers me to download spacewar when i try to start .exe file

I tested on my side and actually it tries to install "spacewar" when I directly launch the executable. That said, the game works perfectly well if you start it from steam (or a steam shortcut).

No viruses found in the folder. (Bitdefender)

Each new port of ASW games with new bunch of surprises. Never get bored of it

Can confirm. Launched from desktop shortcut and steam launcher. No issues. Only does it when launching through local folder. Though, why anyone would want to go through the (minor) hassle of hunting through your steam local files to launch a game (outside of some mods) is beyond me, but to each their own.

It just happened to me as well. My Steam froze and I tried to run UNI from the EXE, after which the game threw a Steam initialisation error and Steam asked me where I wanted to install Spacewar. Dumb programming stuff I guess.
Just end trashbag. Apr 20, 2020 @ 11:39pm
i dont know if this true or not but dev used it to fight piracy. whenever that game open it will launch spacewar.
