Is this game dead?
The number on steamcharts look very low, is it hard to find matches? I remember last time I played this lobby play was really bad, having only 1 match at a time while everyone else had to spectate.

If you're willing to try and join a steam or discord group chat you'll find matches daily.
At least I did, and now am in no shortage of different character matchups and can find someone playing everyday.

FGs like UNIst are far from being dead. Simply, many good players got sick of playing ranked due to the high delay it often induces (I personally hate when the delay is higher than 3f, and more than half of my online ranked games are 7f+). Asking on a discord server often removes that problem.

Hardly a proof.

BBTAG's online is close to dead, yet it's an EVO official game.

Both games have very few players during peak hours, at least on Steam ... That much is true.

This is accurate.

However, i wouldn't say that justifies the definition of "dead". "Dead" is like...Injustice 1. Or UNIEL, for that matter. Games that have been made obsolete by later entries AND don't have many active players.

Of course, there are exceptions like 3S, KoF98, etc, but classics are different.

A current game, even w/ low online player count can't be "dead" if it's still easy to find games. Even if it requires a little effort.

It just came back to life when they announced it for evo.

Oh no, that's not true. There's been a lot of tourneys around, both online and at different events. Actually, I saw like 3 non-online tourneys a month streamed on Twitch, and regular online ones. If you ask around on Discord, you can easily find a game most of the time. If you want to see what a dead game *really* looks like, go search Blade Symphony :P

If anything, it came back to life because of BBTAG and it being released on Steam. At least that's how it is in my area.
It just gained massive traction the past couple of months though, and with its announcement for EVO and fighting game youtubers / streamers finally looking at this game, I expect many new players to follow. And add the "Melee Is Dead" drama into the mix, and we got ourselves free publicity for UNIST.

Well it has like the same amount of players than SC6, so maybe?
